My local revival house begins their summer midnight screenings this May and Die Hard is on the schedule (along with The 'Burbs, Valley Girl, Matinee, Excalibur, Jaws, Streets of Fire, Xanadu and some other fun offerings...all projected in glorious 35mm.). Haven't seen Die Hard on the big-screen since the 80's (when I saw it no less than 5 times) so this should be big fun. I've bought Die Hard twice on laserdisc, twice on DVD and just once on Blu over the years; still one of my all-time favorite action films!

The price dropped to $9.37 on Amazon. Not sure if I want to pre-order this or not. Not sure the audio specs or if this a 4K re-master or 4K transfer. But the price is tempting.

The anniversary release has just gone up for pre-order in Japan, seemingly as a UHD/BD combo pack only. Fox Japan says the UHD will have not only DTS-HD MA 5.1, but also DTS-HD MA 2.0 Surround:

I own this Blu-ray, and it is definitely the same master as the older Blu-ray Discs, albeit with different encoding. I'm presuming Fox Japan is bundling it because the extra dub tracks from it will also be included on the UHD disc, but just be aware that at least one major market is not getting a remastered Blu-ray, at least for the moment.

If that's the case, and the US disc is identical to what's being planned for Japan, I will hold off. I want to add this film to my library, but anything short of a remastered offering won't do. I am willing to wait.
