This is so exciting.

Cannot wait. I'm going to go out on a limb here, and anyone who wants can call me on it when the time comes: I think this might even be better than the first!

OK. Bring it on!

These movies take like 2-3 weeks to film so I hope we get it in theatres by October.

I highly doubt the first took 2-3 weeks to shoot. That’s absurd. The minimum is usually at least a month 4-5 weeks. And there’s more to making a film than just shooting it. Post production takes time. Not to mention scheduling the film for this October is in no way possible. Blumhouse already has Halloween coming out on October 19th. Not to mention Venom comes out two weeks prior to that and Goosbumps is also getting released in October. There’s too much competition for that month.

There is Zero chance this gets released this year at all.

The first film was shot over five weeks (right from its Wikipedia article). And was officially announced (with director and star) over a year prior to release, after being first planned in 2007 for a production attempt which never took off.

Happy Death Day was a solid movie... It still doesn't need a sequel, since it works perfectly as a one and done. A sequel would cheapen it.

Enjoyed the first one. The idea of giving it a sci fi time-travel twist sounds cool to me. I'm in....

Be like if they did a Groundhog Day sequel just following Bill Murray around without the "day repeating endlessly" gimmick. What would be the point?

Exactly... this is one of the few times where I totally dig a movie and not look forward to a sequel.

What are the chances of this being R? I don't know why the first one wasn't. I mean, they made it for about a buck and a half - so it's not like the R-rating was gonna seriously hurt the gross.

An R would've really pushed it into classic B-movie territory.

If it's a full theatrical release (and not a direct to video title) very rare to have an R sequel to a PG-13 franchise. Honestly, Logan (which is not even a direct sequel) is the only one I can think of, though there are examples of franchises returning to their R rated roots after a PG-13 sequel (Die Hard, Mad Max, Alien vs Predator, Riddick).

"if the protagonists are under 18, it has to be accessible to audiences under 18." - Jason Blum

He said this earlier this year but the characters in Happy Death Day and Truth Or Dare are college age so idk.

"If someone gave me a great scary movie all about high school kids, and they said it was R-rated, we wouldn't make it. PG-13, we'd make it... You can't make a movie about kids, and then tell those kids they can't go see it without their parents. It doesn't work - although people have tried.

We did it once. It was a big, big mistake. The Gallows. The Gallows is a movie about high school kids, R-rated. And the movie didn't work. And the movie was quite good. The movie tested well. It was a playable movie. And I think mostly it had to do with the R-rating that we allowed. We should have cut it back, and gotten it to the PG-13, but I didn't.

Though Blumhouse has also done other R rated films with high school age leads such as Paranormal Activity 4, Unfriended (and its sequel), and (I believe, but haven't seen the film) Sleight.

Score a Walk-On Role in Happy Death Day 2

YOU AND A FRIEND WILL:

- Be an extra in Happy Death Day 2 (this one’s just for you, sorry friend!)
- Go on a ghost tour in New Orleans with lead actress Jessica Rothe and director Christopher Landon
- Get flown out and put up in a 4-star hotel

The cast of Happy Death Day 2 was just announced, but they left out one big name… YOU. That’s right, you’re heading to set to join the cast and make your extra debut in this horror comedy sequel. And while the walk-on role is just for you, you’ll definitely want to bring your friend along for the ghost tour with Jessica Rothe and Christopher Landon. (The more hands to hold, the better.) This will be one day you’ll actually want to relive over (and over and over) again. Plus, flights and hotel are on us.

The Gallows didn't work because it was a garbage movie not because it was rated R, he doesn't know what he's talking about. IMO slashers & most horror films should be rated R, its supernatural horror films that can be done right with a PG-13 rating.
