Day one purchase for me. As far as the movie itself goes I've set the bar super low for this one. But I'm expecting a cracking disc, and that's all I want from PR2.

For me, the #1 ingredient for a cracking disc is a cracking movie. If the story sucks, who cares what it looks and sounds like?

Didn't bother me with stuff like Lucy, Murder on the Orient Express, Passengers, Transformers 1-5, or even to some extent the first Pacific Rim. Some nights I just want to turn everything off upstairs and enjoy some nice looking/sounding nonsense.

For me, if the lights aren't on, I'm not home (theater).

This doesn't mean I need to be in deep thought at all times, but there's so much good stuff out there that doesn't require much thinking but also doesn't insult my intelligence that I don't have time for the stuff that does.

A couple solid performances and some lovely effects work is all I need sometimes. Especially now that I'm a parent. At the end of some days I just appreciate a good popcorn flick that demands absolutely nothing of me and that's all I want from this movie.

But I also see that you haven't seen the original since you stopped watching 10-minutes in, so I can see why you'd be apprehensive about this kind of movie in general if it's not your thing.

Not at all- this is exactly what I'm talking about. Do this kind of movie right and I'm there, all day. The reason I'm apprehensive about this one is that I did try to watch the first... and the script got in my way.

Hey, if you don't like it you don't like it. There's a ton of cool stuff about Pacific Rim to appreciate, even if the script isn't one of them, and that's why I like going back to it.

Like a few others have stated, I'm not expecting this movie to get nominated for Best Picture or anything. It's a popcorn flick and hopefully a good one that I can enjoy like the first Pacific Rim. And hopefully when it releases on 4k, it will look and sound just as good as the first one.

The trailers for this one looked very dull. I'll wait for some reviews before watching it in cinemas.

I’m going to guess they mean Rogue One. But there’s no way Boyega would have been in it anyway since the film is set way before Finn was born.

The trailers for this make it look like a cheaper, 90's TV adaptation of Pacific Rim. Seeing how the first one really under-performed domestically I suppose that makes sense. Just really bothers me how the giant robots and monsters seem to be framed as if they were humans instead of, you know, giant ****ing robots and monsters.

I love all of the marketing materials for this movie so the Steelbook designs are gonna be gold.

Just came back from seeing it. Will probably look amazing in 4k but this movie was a big stinker. It was a complete tonal shift of a movie. It’s almost never really serious and you don’t care about the characters at all. They also spend about 15 minutes of the movie catching you up on the previous movie.

I feel like this being 2.4:1 won't have the same impact as Pacific Rim :/

4K + 2D + 3D combos should have been the norm instead of the exception.
