Hope this works out and that Monty Python's Flying Circus and Farty Towels... I mean... Fawlty Towers aren't far behind.

You're quite right there.

I just got around knowing about the delay.

Well, look at the bright side, the Blu-ray release has merely been postponed and not canceled.

So here's hoping BBC's restoration team does it justice.

Not a fan myself but all for it if the BBC will do similar releases for other programmes

I'm always bemused by the interest in old TV series that weren't very good at the time never mind now but obviously this is an exception to that rule!

You don't say why you think it's not very good. Perhaps because of the low budget? I find the old effects to be charming and they don't stop my enjoyment of the well written dialogue and the excellent characters. I'm sure some people are bemused when others are interested in old movies that weren't considered very good at the time too. Yet I see you have a few in your collection that received scathing reviews upon release. I'm not looking for an argument just trying to understand why you have this opinion on Hitchhiker's.

As far as Hitchhiker's goes:

Radio Show > Books > TV Show > Movie

Which shows do you mean? Sure it's quite inferior to the radio versions and novelisations (first 3 anyway) but the Hitchhiker's TV series is hardly a stinker.

Even though due to the lack of compression it'll inherently look better than any remastered DVD, and if the original sound elements still exist it'll definitively sound better.

Currently only on sale to BFI members.
Assuming any tickets left unsold goes on public sale on 7th August 11:30am

Edit : Tried to post link on the BFI webpage but the auto url tool here just corrupts it so you get a dud link. Just search their site.

The original radio series gets a lavish vinyl edition in a few weeks, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hitchhikers...+the+galaxy+lp Unfortunately, the BBC has confirmed it will be the version with the music edits. Vinyl editions of the later series are expected.

Anyone who thinks this show isn't good needs to go stand in a corner and think about how stupid they are.

I don't. As I said, obviously this is an exception to that rule. I love this series and will be buying it! But I am bemused at the interest in some OTHER old TV series that weren't great at the time. For instance - Captain Scarlet. Now I thought this was ancient and silly when I was a kid never mind now!

Id also add that the Hitchhikers film was beyond awful.

Going to disagree with you; Captain Scarlet is for me the peak of Gerry Anderson's Supermarionation series. The puppets had more realistic proportions (compared to the oversized heads seen in Thunderbirds); the shorter episode format meant storylines were taut and zipped along at a great pace; an alien threat comes from the fact humanity was over eager and fired the first shot which is a surprisingly mature thematic choice to make for a kids series; it's slightly more gritty and grounded particularly in it's depiction of violence. Captain Scarlet is the best puppet series ever made; I loved it as a kid when it was re run in the 80's/90's and as a near 40 year old I love it even more.

Why not? If you were to pay again for the new restoration, does it not make sense to buy it in the best possible quality?

Upscale, yes, but you get better compression and they are scanning surviving film material in HD. KJD has posted on FB a photo of some Babel Fish segments from the guide scanned in HD from 16mm and being graded on a HD suite.

Will support this BD release, even though much (most) of the non-16-mm footage is upconverted. Also hope the 1981 version of Day of the Triffids will receive a similar release sooner rather than later.

Can someone please provide me with a pre-order link for this? I can see that the BFI event is still scheduled for September 22nd and if you go you get the Blu Ray with your ticket but I can't seem to find a pre-order for this on the usual sites. I'm quite confused

I can only find the North American releases for pre-order.
