Very pleased to hear it's due on blu with a fresh transfer and agreed the score is sublime.

What I'd give to see the original hyper violent uncut version the composer detailed in the score's limited edition cd notes. It suffered considerable cuts prior to release.

I wonder WTF is up with this release....still no pre-orders. I asked WAC on both FB and Twitter and got zero response.

Not sure about turnaround times between announcements and release date but this was a relatively new announcement.

Actually, not so new. Originally announced it was coming back in March at Wondercon, then official announcement back in April along with 2 Weeks in Another Town and The Colossus of Rhodes as June releases. Both of those titles are available for pre-order, along with Superfly and Designing Woman, both of which were only announced 2 weeks ago, for a June release.

It just doesn't follow along with how WAC has done announcement/releases. I think something came up that has it delayed.

Their preorders usually go up very shortly after they announce the titles. Wonder if this one is requiring some special attention. Either way, I'm glad it's being worked on; it's a highly anticipated release for me.

Update: They just responded on Twitter today to another person's question about DOTS. Here's the exchange:

Question: Is Dark of the Sun still heading to Blu-Ray this summer?

WAC: Yes! We ran into some issues with it but it's still coming. Stay Tuned.

Summer is ending and still no word...I wonder if they found an uncut print of The Mercenaries and decided to do that instead?

No news of a release date unfortunately, but an intriguing update from Warner Archive's twitter last week when asked for an update:

That would certainly be the next best thing, though you'd think they'd have already performed this week prior to the announcement (Night Moves was announced as being a new scan of the original negative, so presumably they'd decided on that long before this point).

It'll probably something terribly mundane that we'll never find out about, like a slight issue with the disc encountered at a late stage. Still, at least a 5 month delay (probably longer) on account of this? Seems pretty drastic.

Please be true please be true please be true. I've got the WAC DVD but it's not great, this NEEDS to be on Blu-ray with a lovely WAC HD transfer. Judging from the state of the DVD I'm not surprised that they said they've been doing a lot of work on it.
