What are the demands for the Criterion Collection exactly and how does this great movie not belong or deserve special treatment? I guess I just don't get it lol

The studio that owns this has released it time and time again.

This will be the 6th time this movie has been released on blu-ray in the U.S. I have it as part of "The Kevin Costner Collection" 3 film set.

I need to watch this again, but I was underwhelmed by it when I saw it last year for the first time. I didn't care for Susan Sarandon's character. It's my least favorite Keven Costner baseball film, but I suspect I might like it better on a second viewing.

I'm glad it's getting a definitive edition for those who love the movie.

I don’t understand it either. Saying something like this doesn’t belong in the precious criterion collection just comes off as snobby.

More than enough there to warrant an upgrade and the movie can absolutely hold its own in the Criterion Collection. Hell, i'm just happy to get the damn extras on the blu-ray this time so I can finally trash the DVD.

To this day, I still smile anytime I hear an athlete/sportsperson churn out those bull*** canned answers that Costner gives to Tim Robbins

Crash: It's time to work on your interviews.

Ebby: My interviews? What do I gotta do?

Crash: You're gonna have to learn your clichés. You're gonna have to study them, you're gonna have to know them. They're your friends. Write this down: "We gotta play it one day at a time."

Ebby: Got to play... it's pretty boring.

Crash: 'Course it's boring, that's the point. Write it down.

Well, to be fair it's not six different releases but the exact same disc repackaged multiple times.

I'd rather see more Kevin Costner films in the Criterion Collection than obscure Polish films from the 1950's.

Although I love the film, am happy that Criterion is releasing it, and will certainly be picking it up, I have to completely disagree with this statement.

There's no problem finding films like Bull Durham on Blu-ray, typically. They're very mainstream and thus boutique releases, while I appreciate them, aren't needed. Some obscure 60 year-old European art film isn't going to be so easy to find most of the time.

Yeah that's wonderful, but I know for a fact I'll buy a Criterion 4K restoration of Bull Durham over about 90 % of the obscure Euro art films. Great for the 10 people that want to buy the obscure film, but just remember what keeps the company going and allows them to put out films that most people have zero interest in buying (and I should know because there's a lot of obscure/non-mainstream films I'm thankful that were put out by Criterion and other companies that were kept afloat by putting out more mainstream stuff that many more people actually want in their collections). I don't know, people are acting like oh Bull Durham getting put out is keeping some other film from being released, which I highly doubt.

I mean by some of the comments on here you'd think they were putting out Rookie of the Year....even though now that I think of it I'd like to see The Bad News Bears (1976) get a Criterion disc.

"You lollygag complaining it's getting a Criterion edition. You lollygag saying it's not worthy of one. You lollygag ragging on Kevin Costner. You know what that makes you? LOLLYGAGGERS."

Rookie of the Year and The Bad News Bears would be more worthy of a Criterion release since those films don’t have a blu-ray.

So to be worthy of a Criterion release it needs to not be on blu-ray yet....well I hope they release 9 Deaths of the Ninja this year!

Yes. The Bad News Bears 1976 needs a blu ray release badly.

I said “more worthy”. I don’t have a problem with Bull Durham being released by Criterion; it’s just kind of boring since it’s already been put out 5 times in the U.S. alone. It can be regularly found for $2.95 at Dollar General. I would love a Criterion release of The Bad News Bears and Rookie of the Year or even just a bare bones studio release. Since those films never made it past DVD.

If the other releases are not from a 4K scan, I'd say that would make it worth owning if you like the film considering depending on what scan was used for the other discs, they could have sad amounts of DNR. Let's be honest just about anything that was previously released as an MGM disc can be found at discount stores...I got the It's A Mad Mad Mad World MGM blu-ray for 3 bucks from a local Big Lots store, but that doesn't make me think that Criterion should never have released their own disc.
