Hopefully they will include all the extras and the audio commentary from the Shriek Show DVD. Would also love to see Killing Birds on Blu too.

Fulci only directed part of the film, there are conflicting reasons as to why but Bruno Mattei directed roughly a 1/3 of the final run time.

If it's a better transfer I'll pick it up but since my 88 version is region free, it'll be pretty low on the "to buy" list. If only Severin would release some of the films they announced well over a year ago.

Probably the best aspect of the film is the score, which I picked up earlier this year.

Am I mistaken, or wasn't Fulci's involvement in this film actually minimal? It's been probably fifteen years or more, but I seem to remember either reading or being told that Fulci left the picture very early into production and that the majority of the film was directed by Claudio Fragasso.

I haven't watched this in a long time, but I seem to remember that it didn't really "feel" like a Fulci film to me.

In particular when the zombies start surrounding the hotel there are a handful shots very similar to his previous zombie movies with them standing outside creepily and the camera peeking through windows. I also read he was a large proponent of the flying head scene, so I'd assume he shot that as well
Yeah, I think the flying head was said to be his, but I wish it wasn't! That is terrible.

Splintersan's mention of Bruno Mattei makes sense too - and was another aspect I'd forgotten about. So this movie had three different directors working on it!

I haven't seen it in a long time, but remember being pretty unimpressed with both this and Zombi 4. However, being a fan of trash cinema, there's a good chance I give it a second look when this gets released.

This is what the ol' Wikipedia has to say about it. It seems sourced from a few books on Italian cinema, one of them being Troy Howarth's more recent Fulci book Splintered Visions which is a pretty good source.

Quote:
Rossella Drudi developed most of the script of Zombi 3 without credit.[3] The film only credits Drudi's husband, Claudio Fragasso, who co-authored the screenplay.[3] Their script set the film in the Philippines as it was a cheap and convenient location to shoot.[3] Zombi 3 was originally announced as a 3D film, but the film was never released in this format.[4] Director Lucio Fulci went to the Philippines along with his daughter Camilla Fulci, and spent six weeks shooting Zombie 3.[3]

After completing filming, he would later state that he "didn't finish making Zombie 3, but the reason wasn't anything to do with illness [...] there were arguments and so, I finished off an hour and a quarter of the film".[3] Fulci stated that he couldn't get the script changed, which he deemed to be "dreadful", and modified it with his daughter.[3] Claudio Fragasso stated that Fulci simplified his screenplay and shot a seventy-minute film which shocked producer Franco Gaudenzi.[5] Fragasso went on to state that after the final editing of the film, it had a running time of one hour and ten minutes, but felt like a slow montage, and was cut down further to 50 minutes.[3] Two opposing views were given for Fulci leaving the film, the first being an illness that left him unable to film and the second being that he was having disputes with producers.[6]

Producer Gaudenzi was worried about the film, and had second unit director (Bruno Mattei) brought in to work on the production with Fragasso in order to complete it.[3] Mattei had been in the Philippines at the time filming Strike Commando 2.[3] Both Fragasso and Mattei make cameos in the film as soldiers who are putting a corpse into an incinerator.[3] Both Fragasso and Mattei worked on new scenes. As they could not get the main actors again, their scenes became subplots.[7] Mattei claimed that he shot about 40% of the film, including all the early scenes in the film and the scenes in which the men are dressed in white anticontamination suits.[7]

Easy double-dip for me, along with Anthropophagous and Absurd whenever they actually come out. Looking forward to Zombi 4 as well. Even though it's not a personal favorite, I wouldn't mind seeing Zombi 5 on Blu as well.

I just picked up Zombi 3, Zombi 5: Killing Birds, and Demons III: The Ogre on DVD, used, for $10 total. I've never seen any of them, but somehow doubt I'll have any burning desire to upgrade.

you may not have a burning desire to watch Killing Birds or The Ogre again after the first time. i've had both for years and watched KB like 3 times and Ogre twice. i'll probably sell ogre and maybe Z5 as well just not worth the time. Z3 does have some amusing moments so i'll keep my DVD but i don't see an upgrade unless it can be had really cheap.

Definitely one of the lesser films attached to Fulci's name, but I still think it's pretty fun in a craptastic kind of way.

Machete zombie is actually kinda awesome. That scene's good. The flying head of course is a highlight. Dare I say it, Zombi 3 has its moments ! I had my eye on the 88 Films brule, but this should be better.

I'm willing to make a wager that Severin will produce a flying-zombie-head enamel pin.

Zombie 5 is the only one I'd care about upgrading.

I'm a big fan of the first film but haven't seen any of the sequels. So, Zombi 3 is actually Zombie 2, right? Though the link says Zombie 3. Does that actually make this release Zombi 4?

Yeah, I'm confused as hell by this series. Would someone mind listing all the films in the series in order with links to the BD if possible.

Dawn of the Dead = Zombi (Italy)
Zombi 2 (IT) = Zombie (US) = Zombie Flesh Eaters (UK)
Zombi 3 = Zombie Flesh Eaters 2
After Death = Zombie 4 = Zombie Flesh Eaters 3

They are being stupid - it should be ZOMBI 3, not ZOMBIE 3.

ZOMBIE was ZOMBI 2.

This is a sequel to ZOMBIE, not a ZOMBIE 2.

I think Media Blasters got this one right.
