I already own the US Lionsgate disc, so I was wondering if this is the same transfer as the 2014 UK release, or are there any improvements? Are colors ok, or did they still go with teal?

Not the best to judge on this (As I JUST bought the Alliance Canadian Blu-ray a few days ago) but I'm guessing StudioCanal is perhaps the better choice than the Miramax and Alliance Release.

Miramax and Alliance seems to have better color as said by some of the people in the other Piano forum for the US Releases.

However:
1.) StudioCanal has the original aspect ratio of 1.85:1. Miramax and Alliance has the 1.78:1 or 16:9, meaning there are no black bars on the top and bottom as it was originally intended.

2.) Since I'm guessing Miramax and Alliance are the same, the subtitles for the scenes where characters are speaking in Maori aren't subtitled which many people on the other forum consider an important key piece of the film.

3.) Not too entirely sure on this but people have said there is better detail on this release.

4.) US and Canadian releases have 2.0 Audio. European releases have the 5.1 Audio

Hope this information helps.

There is a newer 2018 25h Anniversary release btw in case you didn't know. Not much was said on the restoration so I can't help you much with it but I'm guessing it's better than Miramax's Blu-ray.

Thanks.
As for the subs issue, that was fixed in the subsequent US release bi MIramax (2014), which is the one I own. The subs are now there when they're speaking Maori.
I was curious to know whether the 25th anniversary UK disc was a new transfer (I doubt it).
Too bad about the colors, those on the Miramax disc were great.

If anyone is after this, StudioCanal has unfortunately updated the slip to add the new BBFC logo. So I bought the last of the old from HMV alongside A Quiet Place 4K

I had put in an order for this on Amazon in late June to take advantage the VAT removal before the rule changes at the start of July. Amazon has finally cancelled this order stating that their supplier informed them it is no longer available.

Criterion recently announced it as one of their first six 4K titles in the US. I wonder if StudioCanal is planning their own 4K release here soon.

Almost certainly Studio Canal will be doing the 4K restoration and master.

That also applies to Mulholland Drive where Criterion doing UHD in the US but coming from Studio Canal here, although I don't believe they have announced yet. Have not seen a UK pre-order.

I ordered this from HMV, along with the Just a Gigolo Digibook yesterday. I'm sure the Criterion could end up being better, but the Studio Canal is worth getting for the Nyman soundtrack. I had this ordered with Amazon U.K a few months back, but got fed up of waiting for it to be put back in stock, so I canceled it ; not surprised to hear it's gone out of print.

Yes, it’s being released by Criterion. So that release is what people are referring to when they say, Criterion.

Just noticed there's a listing for a re-release of the Blu-Ray in single disc special edition, minus the 25th Anniversary branding and the bonus OST cd.

Amazon says date of issue was 8 Feb 2021, although I didn't notice it when Amazon cancelled my order of the 25th Ann. ed. in August.

Still wondering if SC will do their own 4K of this anytime soon.

Given how generally supportive of UHD Studio Canal are I have thought it was inevitable. Maybe next year or 2023 for the 30th ani
