I'm really on the fence. I'd love to get both "Halloween II" and "Halloween III" with fresh 4K scans, but even more so, I'd rather them actually be released on the 4K UHD format.

I wonder if there's any chance Universal will actually release both titles on UHD since they're releasing Halloween 2018 and may want to promote it with the release of "HII" and "HIII".

Well I'm definitely getting both since this is a new 4K scan of II and III, just thinking should I get them with the posters or not.

I can’t believe I’m going to say this but I’m going to hold off. I’m fearful SF will release the UHD’s soon. I’m happy with my box set, when SF takes advantage of the format I’ll support them. Until then my BD’s will make due.

I mean it’s great that they’re getting new 4K restorations but isn’t anyone else kinda p*ssed that they pull this sh*t? Like why couldn’t they have done these restorations for the Halloween box set? I bought the titles individually, then sold them when they released the box set, now they come out AGAIN as steel books but now everyone who bought the box set has inferior masters.

It’s grrat that they’re restoring these movies, just the triple dipping on these titles at this point is a bit ridiculous.

If they are doing 4K transfers then why don't they just release it on UHD?

Soulless looking artwork, once again. Old news in steelbook releases these days. I love both films and the original artworks, specially 'Season of the Witch'. Why the hell they can't tell right away what the sourse materials is in both movies?? If it's not from the original camera negatives, I'm out. Probably once again, taken from some internegative crap. Thank God I didn't buy Ninja III: The Domination re-release. Previous release is also open-matte, and that's one of the biggest reasons why I stick to it.

I assume it’s the negatives. It would be kind of a waste to do a 4K scan of an interpositive, no?

This.

Why can't they be honest and upfront about these releases? Reminds me of their "Silent Night, Deadly Night" release where they led us all to believe that they found the full uncut negative and that the uncut footage would be fully restored, and it wasn't until after all the pre-orders were placed that they came forward and claimed they "just discovered" the negatives they found were not uncut and we'd be getting the same crappy uncut footage as always.

If I knew this was coming from the OCN, I'd be interested, even though I have too many copies of these films on my shelf already. But if it will literally look no better than what I already own (I have both the Shout and Universal releases of both) then I don't want to get suckered in.

When we're expected to double or triple dip on these titles, I think we deserve honesty about what they are releasing.

Amazing artwork on these releases. Think I will have to preorder Halloweeen II direct from SF to get the lithograph.

Yeah but SF love those 4K IP scans though. Strangely enough, whenever they do scan the negatives, they seem to do it in 2K and they still look much better than their 4K IP scans.

Ass-backwards mentality. Warner have it right by doing IP scans in 2K and OCN scans in 4K. You can't even get 4K of detail out of a 35mm IP scan.

One can "assume" lot when it comes some one like Shout! But as usual, you probably need a bigger boat when the final specs going to be announced, and I don't mean in positive ways.

It’s very unlikely that SF would release these on UHD, but Universal very well might.

Yeah that’s exactly what I was thinking. An interpositive is already a step removed from the negative so you’re working with lesser quality to begin with. 4K of an interpositive is just...weird. Unless of course the negatives no longer exist but that’s not the case with H2 and 3.

But also agree that they should mention “4K scan from the negative” instead of just “4K scan”. I’m staring to think now that they didn’t mention the negatives (which would obviously be a GOOD selling point to put in a press release) because they might not be using them.

Lol. Ugh.

Awesome cover art! Even though I hate when final or penultimate scenes of films have to be on the front. I'm not sure about double dipping for II. I already had Universal's release of Season of the Witch on my list since it's around $10 and I have a new opinion of the film. I may hold out for the steelbook, but my OCD would kick in and want the other steelbook!

It would be nice if those of us that bought the collection could just buy only the discs direct from SF to replace the discs in the collection.

Ugh. I really want that Halloween II steelbook. But if I get that one, I'll have to get all of the Scream Factory steelbooks. Can't just have one.

The region free status of UHD probably makes most of the big studios hesitant about licensing. It’s also apparently very expensive to release UHDs - especially for the smaller labels.
