Great news. Torso is brilliant. Thank you Arrow.

Yeah me too. It's a great film but I always thought the BU PQ was pretty good, especially compared to some of the other early Italian transfers.

Just watched this on Amazon, and it was only so so to me. Not bad, not great. May pick it up during a sale.

So, is the English version mentioned the complete recut with the animated hacksaw opening, and alternate score? I have this on VHS, but to my knowledge it's never been released on disc.

Who knows? Those three have more in common than any do with Torso. I'd say Case of the Scorpion's Tail would be a safer bet.

Sweet, another giallo! I gotta say, I usually for the most part like Arrow's commissioned artwork but this one is beyond terrible. I find it even more disappointing considering it's from the same artist that did the terrific one for What Have You Done To Your Daughters? He should have done something simpler with the killer's mask or something.
I'm a bit torn on what to do with this one. I'm a huge fan of Sergio Martino and I honestly have no problem placing him with gialli greats such as Argento and Fulci. That being said, not considering the dreadful The Suspicious Death of a Minor which is more of hybrid, this is easily Martino's weakest giallo. In a genre that isn't exactly great in its treatment of women this one is so misogynistic, sleazy and exploitative making a bit problematic for me. It's the same reason I could never get into What Have You Done to Solange? It's just so gratuitous with the sexual component, taking the erotic violence inherit to the genre to extremes and IMO leading it into exploitation territory.
My other issue with the film is the fact is the schizophrenic structure in terms of tone with the first half playing as a slasher film and the second the more traditional giallo with its tension and suspense. The film starts with a pretty good opening, but the middle sections while entertaining tend to drag a bit before leading into a terrific second half and finale. IMO, the latter part is what makes the film and places it among the best of the genre.

I have no memory of the first 2/3 of the film whatsoever. The last 1/3 makes me think it was a great movie. So, everything bad you say about it is probably true, but eh. I'll just skip to the climax if I'm not liking it!

The climax was better than anything else in the other gialli of his I've seen. I don't think the rest of it was up to par, considering how forgettable it was, plus Edwige Fenech's charms put three of them at a gigantic advantage against that prude Suzy Kendall! I like the supporting cast in some of the others much more, also. This needed Ivan Rassimov, or Marina Malfetti or Nieves Navarro or George Hilton. The only recognizable face I remember was John Richardson the mimbo!

I remember Case of the Scorpion's Tail pretty well, too, so I'm thinking that one was probably much better as well. I need to rewatch it, I just got the Arrow disc in the mail the other day.

I will be buying this for sure, and I'm pretty hyped for the release, regardless of this post. :P

Older scanner noised master (BU) vs A new 2k scan of the OCN (Arrow)

The whole texture and the gain in resolution will be different and this release will have REAL film grain now rather than scanner noise, so it's a no brainer to me.

Get serious. You're complaining that 70's exploitation has exploitative content
Also, there is nothing dreadful about Suspicious Death of a Minor.

Too bad this isn't a deluxe chipboard edition. It deserves it. Ordered through Diabolik for early shipping.

Id you buying Italian slashers from the 70’s best forget about trying to PC. Annoying that you are even “going there”.

loved this ever since my first exposure to it via the UK Iver Film Services VHS Pre-Cert. Probably going to be around £25 to import but it's worth it.
