The 20th Anniversary PS4 (non-Pro) was only made in 12,0xx copies (some weird number to signify the original launch date iirc). I was lucky enough to have been able to order one when they went up for sale here in Canada, they sold out in seconds.

I just bought the GoW LE Pro earlier this year so I won't be getting this one... at $640 CAD, it's a little too pricey. Does look pretty sweet and if money was no issue, I would definitely try to snag one.

Dark colors don't make the PS4 Pro look good IMO. It should be a light color, to reveal the two dark, horizontal lines it has. That makes it really stand out.

Having already upgraded from a PS4 to a Pro, I can't justify getting one of these. Would like the 2TB in built storage though!

Ships in 1 to 2 weeks which means they don't have any at the moment but they are expecting inventory in 1 to 2 weeks.

UPDATE: Based on my search, it appears that at least online retailers will be receiving replenishment within the next two weeks.

Hopefully that will become standard on PS4/Pro as the gen comes to a close.

Yeah I really don't get why people want so much storage inside the systems these days when external storage is so cheap (and simple to implement).

Or better yet, the people that sell say a vanilla PS4 with a 500GB HDD and "upgrade" to another vanilla PS4 with a 2TB HDD. Even with a trade in, it's more money than just buying an external drive.

Why don't PS4 Pro's play 4k movies? Why Sony? Why?

I would have already hit order.

Because they don't want to impact sales of their standalone 4k players. Two different divisions build each product, so they'd be competing with themselves!

So why didn't they adopt this same policy back when they launched PS2 with DVD and PS3/PS4 with blu ray? What makes 4K so unique?

The more I've thought about it the more it doesn't make any sense as to why they left out 4K playback.

Granted they do have separate divisions but they were slow to market with standalone players too.

I really don't know why there is no 4K playback, it's reasonable to assume that they don't want to compete with themselves. But at this stage PlayStation is practically the only division keeping Sony afloat right now, so why not throw everything in to it?

I highly doubt there are any hardware limitations that mean it cant do it.

The most logical reason I can think of for them not including it is simply to save money. It is a tiny price difference between the drive that is in the PS4 now and one that would playback 4K.

But spread that small cost across 80+million units and it adds up to a huge saving for Sony.

PS2 and PS3 used the same disc tech for their games, so playing movies was easy. PS4 doesn't use UHD for games. To be honest, this is just something I read on a tech site shortly after the Pro launched. It was around the same time as Sony's first 4k player and they didn't want to damage their own sales

See I would think the goal would be to push 4K adoption as much as possible. Whether it's purchased through a stand alone Sony player or a PS4 Pro shouldn't matter. I get not wanting to compete with yourself but if PS4 Pro ensures higher 4K adoption, I can't see how that's not anything but a plus.

It wasn’t Sony’s all-in cash to get UHD up & running. Sony to get BD rolling almost killed them financially & also hurt PS3 sales (short term) because they were forced to charge you more for the console because of the new tech at the time of release while the cheapest BD player on the market was their own $1100 player.

I wouldn’t want to repeat that nightmare again.

If MS can make a machine that has better hardware AND a 4K drive in it for only $100 more than a Pro, I’m not believeing the cost argument in this case.

I think it simply comes down to their attitude that people want just a games machine (despite the eventually tacked on multimedia capabilities).
