I doubt Disney will release the remake without having the original available at stores. My guess is a late May/early June release.

What do you all think? I personally find it hard to believe since Blu-ray releases of the previously mentioned films have already been out there and still in print.
The Lion King did have a standard Blu-ray re-release:

It just wasn't released alongside the 4K.

Seriously?! I thought they had abandoned the vault. And Aladdin only lasted two years?! Between the DNR, high prices, and the stupid vault practice...man, Disney sucks. There's the weak audio that's been around since 2015, too.

Oh, and that Cinderella comparison makes me mad.

Didn't The Lion King get a sudden release just a year after it went into The Vault?

The Lion King had been in the vault for a while before the Signature release came out. I remember it was out of print when I was hunting for it in 2014 and 2015.

The D23 issue referenced earlier in this thread places it on a 2019 timeline right in between the live-action Kim Possible (which is coming in March but has no release date) and Captain Marvel (March 8th). I know Disney usually releases these early catalogues in February, but maybe for Mermaid they're doing March 5th instead? I'll be surprised if they don't try to appeal to Valentine's Day shoppers and do it February 12th.

Vaulting resumed in 2016 after a short hiatus. 18-24 months was pretty much normal for most of the vault releases until 2014 when they allowed several of the princess releases to stay out longer with the Live action Series. They just returned to normal practices in 2016 with Aladdin.

No. TLK went into the vault in 2013 and rereleased in 2017

I was talking about The Signature Collection that came out last year and now we already have the 4K release.

The Little Mermaid "anniversary edition" is up for pre-order on Disney Movie Club:

Quote:
Now part of the Walt Disney Signature Collection, Disney's animated classic The Little Mermaid tells the story of Princess Ariel, a curious and free-spirited mermaid who courageously follows her dreams and embarks on life-changing adventures to find what she truly treasures. From her home under the sea, Ariel longs to explore the wonders of the world above the waves. Determined to make her dreams come true, Ariel strikes a bargain with the evil sea witch Ursula and trades her beautiful voice so she can be part of the human world.
No release date given, but probably what has been speculated since they usually put these up a few months ahead of time. The sequel is up too but it's listed as an exclusive.

Hopefully it won't have Disney Intermission this time.

The funny thing is that it's trivial to get all 3 films from the UK (albeit w/o digital copies) for $20.60 shipped directly from Amazon UK.

The only potentially compelling reasons to get these new "Anniversary Edition" releases would be the exclusive packaging (which is silly, IMO) or to get the included digital copies (which is fair enough).

The Diamond Edition in 2D and 3D included a digital HD. This is the first animated movie to received a blu-ray with Digital HD of all services (Itunes, Googlesplay, etc), because Robin Hood, Many Adventures of Winnie the pooh, Sword in the stone and Peter Pan 2 not included the access in Itunes.

And the new blu-ray (signature) received a generale released, because Jodi Benson confirm she has been in the footage on one of the new bonus of The Little mermaid. This not the same case of 101 dalmatians.

Unfortunately, for some reason, there is no entry for a 4K version.

Technically they did have 3 releases this year with The Lion King 4K, Peter Pan, and Lady and the Tramp. I'm not entirely sure I want to call the new 4K separate releases as a Signature, but apparently Disney does. This is also the first time I can remember a Princess Classic getting a Q1 release -- they've always been Sept-Oct Holiday releases. It would tend to lead you to believe that Jungle Book may be the next Summer Signature Release this year.

Signature Releases
2016
Snow White
Beauty and the Beast

2017
Pinocchio
Bambi
The Lion King

2018
Lady and the Tramp
Peter Pan
The Lion King 4K

2019
The Little Mermaid

Considering some of these movies were vaulted for several years, at least they are being more generous to keep it coming like this so far every year.

As much as I love Little Mermaid, I'm probably going to skip this signature release even if it has new extras.
I already have previous regular version and bought the 3D version again after I got my 3DTV, which also included the digital.

Little Mermaid is the first disney animation that I saw in theater, the first VHS tape I ever bought (which started my collection addiction) And I believe it is also the first disney DVD I bought too with limited issue and later on with 2-disc collector's edition.

I already double dipped this on blu-ray. No need to triple dip on same format. I will wait for the eventual 4k edition.(for 6th time/9 times if counting theatrical)

Someone on the DVDizzy forums said that DMC doesn't always have pages for each version of release as a pre-order; for example, Incredibles 2 had no DVD-only option on the site initially, as a pre-order, but then they added it to the site. So maybe a TLM 4K will come.

It's possible they're waiting for Lion King sales, or they have to do some extra work since the entire film isn't CAPS (though I would have thought it'd be ready to go from the 3D version).

The 3D version is the same master as the 2D version, though Disney didn't bother fixing it like they fixed the 2D.
