Schindler's List: 25th Anniversary - December 7, 2018

Yeah well. I saw WAR AND REMEMBERANCE, and it was better. That massive 24hr mini series on TV blows away Schindler in detail and agony. Plus, it was an incredible continuation to WINDS OF WAR.
My brother was a historian and disliked this film stating how it was so much changed from how it really happened.
It was Schindler's wife who made him do the list. Schindler really didn't want to.

Comparing a 24 hr miniseries to a 3 hour movie seems fair. (of course it is going to have more time to go into detail)

He didn’t want to in the film either, did you not watch? He was content with war profiteering until he saw the liquidation of the ghetto and was appalled, which is consistent with other historical accounts (though how he witnessed it is amplified in the film for dramatic purposes). Nobody made him do it, he changed his mind.

EDIT: is Emilie’s involvement with rescuing Jews downplayed in the film? Yes, but she didn’t make him do it.

Do you and your brother know the concept of how histories are taught around the world? The problem with world history education isnt who is right and wrong. The problem is that people should learn how particular historic events are interpreted in many countries to let one make up their own mind. So for example, people should learn how WW2 is taught all over the world. Russia thinks they won the war. USA thinks they won the war. It doesn’t matter who is right or wrong - what matters is that we should learn how historic events are interpeted by many different cultures so that we all learn to not have childish “im right, you are wrong, this is better, that is worse” conversations that remind me of the good ol’ days of primary school.

You're wrong. American did win the war. Japan lost. Russia doesn't think like you said. Perhaps the people in your part of the world think differently. But facts are facts. I won't care about stepping on toes of others in order to be politically correct. Matter of fact your country didn't do much during that time. Plain and simple. Winds of War & War and Remembrance was written by a person who lived it. Personally I had relatives who were experimented on Dr. Mengele. What I wrote had nothing to do with what you said, it's about me bringing up a better made piece of film on the same subject. A film most here at the forum don't even know about.
Don't give me what you were taught, or if you disagree with what "we" were taught. There are facts. I won't get into revisionist bullshit. Too many lives were lost for that. Smear your crap somewhere else.

Hahaha, okay. You missed the point. There are historians and religion experts all over the world. Guess what the same conversation has been? “I’m right and you are wrong.” Hasnt changed. Still causing trouble and wars because people dont step out of their own shoes. I’m not debating who won WW2 - I was just using that as an example of “historians” of different nations/cultures arguing with each other because they havent learned about how other countries and cultures learn things growing up.

As a Jew, although it's not in the movie, some of our tribe worked for Hitler. My grandpa was an SS officer. Although I don't approve, I was proud that he served in the army.

Wrong. The Genocide portions are less - it dealt with all fronts of the war. If you saw it you'd know that. The portions dealing with the camp Genocide would add up to a 3hr film.

It's still different....I mean I'm sure they also spent a lot more time writing & filming it than the movie. So...really Apples & Oranges when it comes down to it. (like when people said The Flash was better in the tv show than in BvS & JL...lol...yea of course...when you have seasons to write & build up a character vs 2 movies with maybe a total of 8-10 minutes of screen time)

Love the movie or hate it...I love it & is one of my all time favorites (regardless of how historically accurate or not it is) based on the art of film making. I watch it when I am really depressed or when I feel my life turns to shit & it reminds me that my problems are so insignificant & trivial to what others had to endure.(for those who survived & the many who did not) I puts things in perspective to me. Call me a sissy or whatever (as a few people in the past have when I mention this) I don't care... for that reason alone it is more impactful to me than the previous mentioned movies (& shows) on the subject. (& never said those sucked either...just to clarify to people that need that extra push in understanding)

I’m much more excited for the theatrical re-release of Spielberg’s other 1993 masterpiece: Jurassic Park.

I would like to see a color version as well just to see what it would be like, but I think it works & was made B/W to have the contrast & focus of the little girl in the red coat who was the main visual focal point of an individual throughout the movie to Oscar himself. (If I remember correctly the studio did not want the movie in B/W to begin with, but it payed off.

I first saw this when NBC ran it fully uncut and uncensored, which was bold at that time.
My brothers and sisters were heavy on UPN and WB shows and I was usually overruled on many options of shows so luckily, the living room TV was available. I was in 15 or 16 at the time and at that age, it made a huge impression on me and was just mesmerized by it. When the movie was over, I realized why this should never be seen in any altered state whatsoever.
It's simply one of the greats in my eyes and I will be at my local Dolby screen to experience this on the big screen for the first time.

Schindler’s List is still one of the most incredible recent fims ever made. It’s equally entertaining as it is emotionally gripping and disturbing. This is what a motion picture is - a perfect example of a film that encompasses many emotions. I watch it once a year, but it’s a film I can watch even more often. This movie always affects me emotionally no matter how many times I see it. Not just for the subject but also for its use of music, camerawork, editing, etc.
