NO... They can't spell 4k, IMAX or DTS... This is a home theater lunatic fringe's wet dream. (The only thing Joe Sixpack would really care about is... "Hey Cletus, look my TV ist full.)

(Within a month of launch they'll be mucking up all the 4K threads *****ing that they won't buy a title unless it IMAX Experience certified.)

This seems like a lot of expense/work just to make the ZOOM button obsolete.

I am a huge IMAX fan, so I am very excited by this. Even though it wouldn't hold a candle to a real IMAX screen (My livingroom just isn't that tall), I would love to see some specific movies in their intended 1.43:1 ratio.

The whole point of IMAX is the size. It's nice that they may include expanded ARs, but if I can't enjoy the spectacle of seeing the movie on a huge six-story screen -- meh.

I can’t speak for Cameron but having seen The Dark Knight recently in a 15/70 theater, the 4K is a perfect recreation of what they put out on IMAX screens so your issue with his 4K films are likely source related and not revisionist or messed up transfers.

Unless they push all IMAX Enhanced Blu-rays on triple layer discs only, maximize video bit rate, and audio soundtrack limited to the original language dub in DTS-HD MA/X. This very much sounds like THX certified DVDs all over again. Or even Superbit DVDs.

Honestly, you can get a great home theatre experience with the right calibration. As long as the studios don't fudge the 4K release.

Sounds like money grab, without actually adding any technology.

Yeah I’m confused as to what this is supposed to do or add. Is it a new HDR format (like Dolby Vision) with a variation of DTS-X that will add more channels (from the current limit of 11)? Or just simply a certification like THX?

That Michael Caine isn't supposed to look like a burns victim. It's not just there as the DNR is deployed in several more scenes throughout the UHD.

Auro 3D runs over the DTS codec

DNR being applied isn’t a problem when done right. I haven’t seen much complaint outside Uber pixel peepers. And I was referring to The Dark Knight, not Batman Begins.

and yet I don't see Brad Bird budging an inch to reformat Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol to open up the framing for home video.

It is.
All the Nolan discs have issues on UHD for me.
They just have lesser or different issues to the BD's
