Well that's one off of my wish list!!!! This is my absolute favourite Disney Animation film ever!! Ordered my one from Australia (JBHifi) for £21.99 shipped, as I don't think they will release this in the UK, but if they did it may be set at a ridiculous price. I think I will just add the disc to my UK 3D edition.

Dumb question, but how much more can an animated film be improved in 4K?

Unlike live-action, there's not a whole lot of added detail to be seen. Unless it only means higher contrast in color.

I don't know, I'm no expert so maybe someone (Geoff) can educate me.

Give me Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and especially (because it's my favorite) Fantasia, Disney!

I'm waiting for Disney's Hercules. It's my favorite animated film by Disney.

Will be interesting to see reviews for this.

Im guessing it will be their current HD transfer from digital files Upscaled to 4K

Right?

Just wish we had ghe actual 35mm film prints scanned at 4K as an option.

Wonder how (much) long(er) it will take for them to get to Hollywood Pictures, Touchstone and Bruckheimer stuff. 20th anni for Enemy Of the State next month!
I would love to get Enemy of the State in 4K (see my screen name). The Rock, Con Air, etc. would be great too.

Lion King will be a day one purchase. Pretty much any Disney animated from the 90s is on my list.

and for this reason I think the 2011 3D version is probably still the best version. This doesn't interest me but I would love 4k versions of Disney's older films

You know, it's funny. A friend of mine suggested that 35mm scans of these in 4K would probably yield better results than the original CAPS files because the 4K may reveal pixelization and jagged edges that the 35mm would smooth over. It'll be interesting to see how Lion King holds up upscaled.

I love the cover art for this, and I told myself that other than select favorites, Walt Disney Animation Studios films are the only titles I have on Blu that I'm double dipping for on UHD, even the upscaled 90s-2000s ones. So I'm looking forward to this, but I'm honestly more excited for The Little Mermaid which is rumored to be coming around the same time.

I think the CAPS were about around 1280 x 2048 (the 4:3 video editions had a sliver more height that the widescreen 1.66 video and theatrical 1.85) and were high bits (16bits) files so there should be some color improvement retaining the full chroma and depth.

Never understood those who want grain on their animated titles. Yes, some of these were shot on film, but I feel like it’s something that’s unavoidable in the filmmaking process.

Me personally? I’d like these presented as if we were looking directly at the original artwork pre-filmic artifacts. But, that’s an unpopular opinion around here.

It doesn't matter anyway in this case: this is digitally animated like every other Disney animated titles from the 90's....

The last "traditional" Disney feature (hand-painted cel) was "The Little Mermaid" (1989)
