New Line Cinema is a completely-held subsidiary of Warner Bros. If SF is able to license from WB, it's not like the New Line branding is any kind of additional hurdle.

That would be great but I doubt it as that never got released in any shape of form. The film was shot to be R-rated but cut for and released as a PG-13.

This is one of the rare successful horror remakes of the last couple of decades. While the plot is more or less the same, the look and atmosphere is completely different with more of a Tim Burton/David Lynch feel than the more naturalistic 70s movie. Crispin Glover is perfect in the lead role.

Fantastic! I was wondering what Scream would be able to add to the package, since the old New Line DVD really was exhaustive (seriously, the commentary is fascinating and the "Year of the Rat" documentary, which was directed by Glen Morgan's assistant, is really in-depth and unique), but it looks like they've managed to come up with some great new stuff.

Before he left Twitter, I had a few conversations with Morgan about Willard and working with Crispin Glover. His passion for the project still showed in a rather bittersweet way, and I'm really looking forward to hearing his thoughts here, 16 years removed from the disappointing reception.

Crispin Glover’s Willard is a lot more menacing and weird than the 70s version, so it makes sense that his mother is too. Burroughs really looks like she could be his mother.

Wow this blu-ray looks fantastic in it's new restoration, you'd be hard to be convinced it was made in 2003 and nice extras too.

Picked it up at my local record store day one. Looking forward to digging in over the weekend--I still can't believe Shout packed ~5 hours of new retrospective content (including the two new commentaries) on top of the already-stacked features from the old DVD.

Another thing I plan to do is reassemble my own personal cut, which I did several years ago with an SD rip from the DVD. I put the excellent deleted scene where Willard and Kat discuss reincarnation back into the middle of the movie, and then put the alternate "Willard dies" ending back on but cut to Glover's surreal "Ben" video as the final scene. I know everyone involved struggled with finding a good ending and remained unsatisfied, and I really enjoy my own lil' version.

Yeah, I'm surprised the masters hadn't rotted away into dust in the SIXTEEN YEARS since this was released.
