The HD DVD'ers never know when to stop.

If I read it correctly, I just saw on another site that the reason for the HD DVD delays is Blu-Ray replication problems/capacity. You see, in their crazy world, it doesn't matter that Paramount is going to start producing Blu again...nope, what matters is that the precious HD DVD version had to be delayed because they cannot make enough Blu's to meet demand due to replication issues (and Paramount wants to release both on the same day). LOL

How f*cking goofy and stupid are these people?

"HD-DVD looks like the new Betamax." Well, perhaps in defeat rather than in quality.

You have to consider the amount of $99 players that were sold. Not all of them will be aware of a format war that even existed and that its soon to be over.
They don't have to do this and, in fact, Paramount has already demonstrated a lack of the etiquette you describe. They may do so to soften the blow for HD DVD buyers, but the remainder of the year seems a stretch. Indeed, the longer they continue to produce both formats, the longer the customer community will remain confused.

As the last two remaining studios showing their Dud support they will end up doing this. That is different from when Paramount defected from Blu, there was still enough blu support from other studios. While I agree it will continue to add to confusion, once retailers decide blu exclusive then that is the out for these two studios to go blu exclusive.

they should have a neutral transition period before going fully blu, but the whole year? Get real, thats WAY too long. Maybe 2-4 months, basically to dump stock. Im sure the BDA is pressuring them to have the shortest neutral period possible.

It doesnt matter if they announce their intention of going blu exclusive. As long as they continue releasing on HDDVD, some consumers will get confused. So why keep confusing them for a whole year?

Anyone else think this is because they're not staying with HD DVD for long??

IIRC, Paramount did the same thing before dropping Blu back in August.

I'm not going to get ahead of myself but yes, I do feel a touch of deja vu right now on that.

Yes with catalog titles. These are both Day and Date releases which IMHO a delay is much more of a red flag. They did not announce the Day and Date delays when the dropped Blu, if I remember correctly.

Thumbs up Paramount Delays Upcoming HD-DVD Releases

Paramount has announced a street date delay for its HD DVD releases of 'Into the Wild' and 'Things We Lost in the Fire,' pushing both titles back to early March.

As we've previously reported, the studio originally announced the two HD DVD releases for February 12, day-and-date with their standard DVD counterparts. This new street date bump will now see all versions of the two films hit store shelves three weeks later, on March 4.

No reason was given for the delay, but specs remain unchanged for both titles, with each including 1080p video and Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 Surround tracks. Previously announced extras include multiple making-of featurettes on both discs, and deleted scenes on 'Things We Lost in the Fire.'

The suggested retail price also holds steady at $39.98 a pop.

You'll find complete disc details for 'Into the Wild' and 'Things We Lost in the Fire' linked from our HD DVD Release Schedule, where the two titles are now indexed under their new date of March 4.

We've also set up dedicated threads for the two movies inour Forums area -- click the following links to discuss the 'Into the Wild' HD DVD release and the 'Things We Lost in the Fire' HD DVD release.

Gotta love this line: "No reason was given for the delay"

I wonder what it could be.
