Never did watch the ROD TV series though British Crispin Freeman from the OVA's was silly.

Anohana and 3gatsu are probably my favorite dubs in the last few years.

It’s because the 2 Dubs being different on why I like to have the Subtitles on when watching the Dub. Comparing the scripts at the same time. But all of this locking Subtitles crap is preventing that.

One show I haven't seen mentioned that I only watch in English any more is Big O.

Code Geass
Stein's Gate
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Psycho Pass
Kill La Kill
Gurren Lagann
Darker than Black

The list is long, there are many subpar dubs out there but where a dub has a decent company behind it and the actors have the right infrastructure they can turn out a good level of quality. Devil is a Part-Timer is a case where I personally feel the dub outclasses the sub, having watched both. The dub writers went and created their own language based on several different European languages while the sub tried a very stilted intrepretation that sounded completely off.

Code Geass is something I've always felt worked better in dubbed too because Britannians would not speak the language of the people they consider to be trash and the line up was stacked as hell. Most of the actors (Troy Baker, Laura Bailey, Travis W, Liam O'Brien) are pretty much exclusively VA's for high budget video games, pretty much the western equivalent of Hanakana.

Default The English Dub Appreciation Thread

I think sometimes the "bad" ones can also be thoroughly enjoyable too. Back when we didn't have the option of Japanese+Subtitles (such as rental VHS releases).

The dub for the original Berserk is top tier. And you get the outtakes

I also prefer English Dubs...however if I had to picked the best ones...than for me the top ones would have to be:

Inuyasha
Chobits
Death Note
Darker Than Black

Those had incredible English Dub casts.

I liked the Samurai Seven English dub.

Didn't feel the need to watch it with subtitles, so can't compare.

I have known full-on sub purists who say the same thing, which is insanely shocking! I may have to watch it someday.

Romeo X Juliet is better, ( and oh I so need to rewatch this one )
In Japanese you lose all the Time Period & Shakespearean Type Language

Even this sub purist (me) has to agree. The script is a huge improvement over the subtitled script. They even use Iambic Pentameter! Even the acting is good. Colour me impressed.

I do not think it will be, it's only divisive when you have to defend yourself in Forum Posts agaisnt the Sub Only people.

So no worries, we're in a Dub Thread talking about Anime Dubs....

This is called The English Dub Appreciation Thread

As long as it’s for a positive contribution to this thread, even sub purists are welcome here.

Also, I have to agree about Romeo x Juliet. Excellent dub! I actually never finished the series (only got half way), and have been thinking about it a lot in the last two years or so. I really need to watch it all from the beginning soon...

On the Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods Special features, there is a video showing the voice actors in their recording booths doing the voices, with the scene playing as well. I really liked this behind the scenes view, and also found one on the Fairy Tail Blu-Rays... does anyone know what other Blu-Rays have a feature like this?

As a long-time anime fan, back when I started collecting them there was only VHS tapes.
Back then they had Dub, or Sub. Sub was actually more expensive to buy since they considered those "collectors editions" at places like Suncoast.

Anyhow, now with the advantage of DVD/Blu-Ray I still opt for dub as much as possible.
It's just way easier to follow the story, and get the feel of the show IMO.

I do eventually watch the Japanese versions if I decide to purchase the show in question.

There are some DVDs that feature this, on the Japanese side.
One that immediately comes to mind on the English side is The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.
Especially on season 2, where the ASOS Brigade (led by Christina Vee as "Haruhi") visits Bang Zoom studios.

I should mention that the dub to Carole & Tuesday which is on Netflix is not only a great dub, but makes a lot more sense since the songs they sing are all sung in English.

Ditto. I thought the English voices suited the characters better, so much so that when I bought the Japanese boxed set of the movie (before the domestic version came out) I couldn't even finish it because I didn't think the voices fit.

And I'm neither a dub or sub kinda guy. Some series I prefer one way, some another (I couldn't watch the dub of "K-On," for example).
