To the kid's credit, he has a keen interest in pre-digital F/X techniques and is always up for a double-feature of "old movies" with his weird Uncle. I had a real-life moment like this a few years ago, talking with a cousin of mine who's in her 20s. I started the conversation with the phrase "When I was your age", and immediately dialed back with, "Hold on - I'm too young to say that!" She just smiled and laughed.

The other day I was watching (well, it was on in the background) a 1994 episode of Columbo with William Shatner. That was around the time of Generations when, at the time, he was often mocked for still boldly going at his age. Yet seeing him in the episode now, I kept thinking how relatively young he looked.

Its a combination of both. Changes in filmmaking styles, fashion, hair styles from the 70s to 80s then from 80s to 90s, then 90s to 00s are vast. But from 2010-2019 it looks like all the same shit. Digital films age a little better because everything looks pretty sterile too. Technology while still advancing is providing diminishing returns with phones, cameras, tvs etc. Modern CGI effects in marvel movies often look ten years old or even older to me, it looks like a cartoon. I think the internet makes the world a smaller place too so were not seeing these massive changes from decade to decade in american culture anyway. Its the same with other art forms as well like gaming. A game from 2011 can still feel pretty impressive and look great, playing a game that was ten years old in 1997 was like seeing something from a different planet.

True. Up until the mid to late 90's you could easily guess what decade a film took place just by the look of the cars they were driving. Today they don't look much different than they did 20 years ago.

The Crow is definitely one of the best films ever made. When you strip away the violence and darkness, it boils down to a love story that conquers death. That's such a common theme, because we all want to trust that a love exists in the world, that continues for us even when our natural life doesn't. Its very sad that Brandon died during filming; I think he'd have loved to see how appreciative fans have been over the years. Sadly, the sequels pretty much suck, though I liked Eric Mabius' performance in Salvation.
