I'm a little confused by the title to this thread. Many of the songs listed ARE on the soundtracks released. My version of the Top Gun soundtrack has Great Balls of Fire on it.

Now if you're talking about previously existing songs that are used to great effect in films, that's a huge category. My favorites include:

Stuck in the Middle With You - Steelers Wheel (do I really need to name the film?)
Atlantis - Donovan (A Walk Among the Tombstones)

I guess I should have made myself more clear, but the film uses a different version. I was getting at the fact that the songs that were released prior to the soundtrack coming out.

Not sure if this fits the thread exactly, but I have to say I really associate 50c "Go Shorty, It's your Birthday," with Happy Death Day. And it wasn't even in it! Oddly enough, they repeated it in the 2nd trailer too.

I have to assume that Skyfall was for the film, and didn't come out until the film.
