Another great thread. I absolutely love the Roger Corman adaptations with Vincent Price, and the Arrow releases here in the UK are excellent.
Thanks. If you put into the system I will enter it into the OP.

I've bought all the region B Arrow releases of Corman's Poe films. I agree they're
the best transfers, razor sharp, accurately and beautifully graded, expertly mastered
in high bit rates and attractively packaged. The steelbooks of The Fall of the House
of Usher
and The Pit and the Pendulum are to be cherished.

Thanks, I'll pick it up.

I have a collection of record albums from the 1950s and 1960s of
Poe readings. My favorites are the four LP's Basil Rathbone did. I
first heard them in the public library when I was a kid. Many actors
did them. spoken world recordings. I thought about including a post
on Poe in other media, but I don't know if it would be appropriate
on blu-ray.com. In any case, I recommend the Rathbone LP's.

Regarding Two Evil Eyes, I keep the Blue Underground edition in my Romero
shelf and the 88 Films edition in my Argento shelf. How, then, did I overlook it?

Regarding Castle of Blood and Web of the Spider, are they based on a Poe
story directly, or does Poe supply vague inspiration? Similarly, Corman's
The Terror (1963) and The Conqueror Worm / Witchfinder General have
nothing to do with Poe except to quote his verse, use a title and name
association for box-office. How do you think I should include those, on the
master list or in a separate category? I'm receptive to suggestions.

James Mason did a spoken word album of The Tell-Tale Heart. I didn't know
it was a film.

I think there was a British film of The Fall of the House of Usher in 1947
or thereabouts but I haven't found a DVD of it.

Perhaps I should start a "on DVD only" category although I know some people
frown on that in the blu-ray section.

Excellent suggestions, many thanks.

I've entered the ASIN code from Amazon UK, and it's now apparently awaiting for someone in admin to approve it (or something along those lines). Hopefully it will show up eventually.

Edit: It's now showing on the database, but you have to click on the title to get the cover image (front and back). [Now corrected]

Castle Of Blood is influenced by Poe, for sure, and it’s also credited as being from a short story by Poe — but it’s not (those zany Italians!). Poe is also a character in it. Web Of The Spider is a color remake of it.

This thread has the potential of becoming an expensive place to visit. Could you all take a break and go watch some Marvel stuff for awhile?

It's a shame Arrow haven't included The Masque Of The Red Death and The Premature Burial with all the other Poe films they released, as they are both AIP titles if I recall correctly. I do have the Australian and German versions respectively which I'm happy with, but if Arrow ever do release them in the future, I'll be happy to double-dip.

I've always been a fan of both gothic horror and Vincent Price, and the Roger Corman films are for me simply outstanding. It's amazing how good the sets looked particularly as they were made on a limited budget, as far as I understand.

Tales Of Terror shows the versatility of Price's acting, as he could go from playing a tormented character as he did in 'Morella' to a comedic role in 'The Black Cat' - that wine tasting scene with Peter Lorre is pure gold.

I'm already setting aside some funds as we speak.

Which reminds me, I'll have to dig out my book of the complete Edgar Allan Poe stories which I haven't read for a long time and refresh my memory.

The Christopher Walken reading of The Raven is great. He really gets into it. My favorite however is Iggy Pop's reading of The Telltale Heart. It is creepy as hell and I never would have dreamed Edgar and Iggy could go so well with each other.

Hopefully Richard won't mind if I post this link....https://www.civilized.life/articles/...gar-allen-poe/

As far as the film adaptions go, my favorite is Vincent Price in The Pit And The Pendulum. I imported the Arrow blu even though I have the Shout set. Vincent freaked us out in this when were kids !!

Thanks for the link to the review. We all enjoy reading those things.

Your screen capture is a memorable moment in the film, I won't say where it
comes in.

I've always thought Corman's most sophisticated film in the Poe series was
Tomb of Ligeia, which was atypical of the others, but I enjoy The Pit and the
Pendulum and The Fall of the House of Usher the most. I saw Price introduce
Usher at a lecture he gave once. Now it's more than thirty years later and
he's still the funniest stand-up comic I'd ever seen. He had a theater filled
with a thousand people laughing out loud in unison for an hour. He set us up
for a shot in the film where he walks through the passageway. He said that
Corman was always playing tricks on him like spraying a cobweb in his way
but not telling him, and then he'd step into and react for real. So when the
shot came up the crowd reacted as he intended. Price was a class act.

No, but people mention it on the forum periodically as something they'd like to see on Blu-ray. I'd buy it for sure.

I am so envious ! I would loved to have seen/heard him in person. I was watching one of the extras of a blu ray where his daughter was talking about these huge stars that Vincent was so excited to work with early in his career. I didn't recognize any of their names. She then said she was amazed at how those people are pretty much forgotten now. While her fathers popularity seems to grow with each passing year with a new, younger generation of fans...

I believe a lot of it has to do with the fact (besides his charisma and talent) that he could be both endearing and terrifying and at the same time !!

I have 33 Vincent Price movies in my collection and one of the performances of his that I will always remember is his role in the Hawaii episode of The Brady Bunch. Ha ha. What a talent he was....

I really enjoy that cartoon and Mason's reading. Thanks for posting it. Wish it were on disc.

Okay, I'll put Castle of Blood in the OP. You want Web of the Spider in there, too?

It doesn't show up on a search unless one enters the foreign title. Try to get
them to put The Oblong Box in the title.
