SNES games hold up pretty well so they're probably not going to spend the money remaking that. It will just get added to the online service when they inevitably start adding SNES games is my guess. It's also on the SNES classic.

Agreed that it's the best of the 2D Zelda's though.

That said, I love my Switch, but I'd never trade my PS4 for it. I like Sony's exclusives and the big AAA third party games the most and spend most of my time there and/or on PC. Switch is just a third platform for the handful of their games I love. So even if it came, I'd suggest saving up to buy it and keeping the PS4 as well as the complement each other very well IMO.

They already made A Link Between Worlds which is pretty darn close to a re-imagining as it is.

ALTTP is my all time favorite game, nothing as of current and past gen has even come close to dethroning it.

I've yet to play that as my 3ds was stolen a few months ago.

That's a sequel, not a re-imagining. It's even given a "2" in the Japanese title.

A Link to the Past = Triforce of the Gods
A Link Between Worlds = Triforce of the Gods 2

I recently sat down and made a Top 10 games list and decided definitively that ALTTP is my favorite game as well

It’s always been right around Top 3 unofficially; I bought the SNES Classic almost exclusively for that game (though I do love other games on there).

I'll pick this up. I'm not entirely thrilled with the art style, but it is not a deal breaker. It would have been nice if they had roughly used something like the younger version of link from Ocarina of Time / Majora's Mask, with the rest of the aesthetics matching that, but again, not a deal breaker.

I think the biggest problem with this game is the price point. $60 is way too much IMO for what appears to be pretty much a straight up remake of Link's Awakening.

I think an apt comparison is A Link Between Worlds on the 3DS. That took the map from Link to the Past, but made a new game out of it with new thing to do. It also used a "cutesy" art style (though IMO even the art style used in that game was better than this new one, but I digress). Honestly this remake of Link's Awakening seems like something that would have been released on the 3DS just a couple of years ago (the only difference being that it wouldn't have as high of resolution, but the basic look would still work just fine).

And since the 3DS is pretty much being retired, and the Switch is taking the place of both Nintendo's past consoles AND handhelds, it makes some sense that games akin to the sort that were made for the 3DS come out on the Switch.

But the 3DS games were typically $30 to $40. Not $60. The game simply being on the Switch instead of 3DS doesn't justify the extra $20 in my opinion.

I won't let that stop me from getting it, especially since I still have my Best Buy gamer's club membership, which doesn't expire until late August. So that takes a bit of the "sting" from the price in my case. But that's a benefit that I won't have for too much longer, and most don't have. So long term, I think Nintendo needs to think about these price points.

The idea of this glorified would-be-3DS-title being $60, which is the same price as Breath of the Wild (which was both a completely new game from the ground up, and a larger and more complicated game to develop), is kind of asinine IMO.

I agree that the price sucks, I would have preferred $40.

Hopefully they fixed the bugs from the original. I remember being really upset when this first came out that I had restart the whole game because of the bug with the ball in the tower towards the end. So frustrating to my 7th grade self...

That aside though, great game. Anybody who has never played it should definitely pick it up. Maybe we can get an HD LttP remaster next..

Also reminds me I should beat link between worlds some day.

It’s not like they’re taking the original game and putting fancy graphics on it. They’re creating the game wholesale so there wouldn’t be any bugs from the original.

Miyamoto once said when asked why he left bugs in when porting Ocarina of Time to the Gamecube, he said "People would miss the glitches, so we left them in"

But in this case, it's not a port. I'm sure the new code doesn't have that bug (though it may have new ones of its own)

Wow, I was hoping it would be priced in the Captain Toad range. I wonder if they'll throw in the original for added value...

Keep in mind that Toad was a port, where this is a built-from-the-ground-up remake. I can't think of too many of those that don't go for full price, other than maybe the Crash trilogy.

Though I never spend $60 on anything myself, so I guess I can't fault others for balking at this price. Luckily "$45 sales" seem somewhat common with first party titles.

Oh, and as far as "straight-up remake," I really think they'll add a ton of new stuff similar to how they handled the Metroid 2 remake. That was the perfect way to do this sort of thing.

Ya, I suppose the glut of low-priced games on the eShop (and other digital storefronts) kind of turns full-prices games into stickershock.

I think I’ll hold out for one of those price drops, but I do hope the game does well. Then perhaps we’ll get a remake of The Adventure of Link!. I had so much fun with that game, I don’t know why it’s treated like the bastard child of the (canon) series.

I think it’s because of the difficulty spikes and the fact that it’s like Simons Quest in that you either need a guide your first time through or you just exhaust every possibility until you get an outcome. If they could add some really good QoL tweaks to TAoL I think it would make for a great game.

Point taken. I loved Simon’s Quest as a kid, too. I guess I had more free time to mess around until I figured stuff out.

I do feel like this shouldn't be a 60 dollar game .. but I'm a sucker for Zelda games so I'll be buying this as soon as it comes out!

I'm pretty sure $60 is a brand tax. Compare it to another recent 8-bit game that received a complete overhaul, Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap. That game launched for $20 ($30 physical), however Wonder Boy has a smaller (though quite devoted) fanbase than Zelda, and Nintendo has a consistent presence and excellent reputation in console gaming whereas Sega...well I've never met another Sega Master System owner. Anyway, that's my apples to oranges comparison.

There isn't a price listed on Nintendo's page, so perhaps the game will be more reasonably priced when that detail gets an official announcement.

The game went up on Best Buy 10 minutes after it was announced, why is the price still debated? It’s a $60 game.

Games always go up for pre-order at full price $60 so that when the official price is revealed they didn’t under price. While I think it will be $60, it’s not official until Nintendo says so. There have been cases of official prices being lower than the initial price before.
