Can't wait for the day Best Buy doesn't use a JPEG from 1999 to sell their Steelbook pre-orders. Maybe some day we'll have the technology.

JPEGs are fine for what they are: they're serviceable and, AFAIK, still the smallest file size (when compared with other image formats). Sure, they're lossy compressed, but it's not as if you're buying the JPEG.

What are the tech specs? New transfer and all that? I kinda want but I have a feeling 4k updates of all the old live action movies are around the corner

I agree. Best Buy stock photos are always terrible. Really terrible.

Hopefully a better picture will surface soon.

yeah not gonna happen. Aladdin is OOP now and I highly doubt Disney will rerelease it so soon after the previous release. I don't see them doing a Dumbo steelbook so I don't see an Aladdin steelbook happening

Dumbo isn't in the "vault", so I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a Dumbo Blu-ray Steelbook release alongside the remake like we are getting with Poppins.

As for Aladdin, typically titles released on disc 5-6 years ago would be likely candidates for a Signature Collection release. (Peter Pan was 5 years between releases.)

Likely possibilities for this year include: Cinderella, Fantasia, Jungle Book and Sleeping Beauty.

(101 Dalmatians would normally be listed here, but it isn't exactly in the vault - it was just re-released at Disney Movie Club.)

I think there is a good possibility we will see a summer/fall re-release of Aladdin simply due to it's theatrical sequel and since it was animated in CAPS the film doesn't need the level of restoration or remastering as the other film based titles.

Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 has the longest wait since it's last release - 9 years ago. Cinderella is overdue as well, but needs a major remaster/restoration.

Personally, I think Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty and the Fantasia films would be excellent 4K showcases as far as eye/ear candy.

Although, this should really be a 4K release. Disney should be making this as a leap of faith, but my gut thinks they're saving 4K for the + service. :shudder:

I have a sealed copy of the silver and purple region free UK steelbook. Hopefully my ROI doesn't take a hit with the release of this one! I had planned to buy the MP Returns steel when it came out and sell them as a pair.
