another possible reason for me....may also be...

the fact that people are charging close to 50% of the bluray cost of the movie for the DIGITAL COPY.

a new movie came out today, it sells for 18.00 at amazon,

seller wants 8$ for the digital copy.

regular hd, not even 4K

um,? yea sure right

I continued to get more titles by purchasing "cheap" codes to add to my collection.

But than I started getting frustrated with all the UV crap and not having certain titles available on various platforms. Ultimately, that's what caused me to throw in the towel on Digital.

I won't go into all the other reasons (rights being a big one) why I was never a big fan of Digital to begin with, but I've decided I'm done with it and will stop buying/redeeming all together.

Not here to pi$$ on Digital or start another "Digital vs Physical" war. Just wanted to share my decision to stop collecting Digital, and why I made that decision.
Thanks for sharing. I find it interesting to see what others are thinking on the topic. I have a foot in both worlds but sometimes find myself swaying one way or the other. Time will tell.

The trouble is the majority of the younger generation don’t care about physical media. They want instant access on their phones, tablets etc. Plus iTunes etc sell digital etc for a lot less than discs! I think physical discs lovers are the real movie connoisseurs.

That’s the sad state of our society. All the good stuff is going and people who like to stream aren’t really bothered about collecting or top notch picture quality etc. Only the real movie lovers want physical copies.

As I started to travel more and my movies collection grew, Convenience finally trumped Fidelity.
I will not disagree that quality is better on physical media, but I got so tired or ripping and organizing my Plex server with the movie on top of all the extra content, I said goodbye to physical media and have never been happier.
@Bourne1886 I also disagree because I don't watch physical media I'm not a real movie connoisseur... coming from someone that spent many nights with a reel to reel and a razor blaze editing my films at Columbia Film School.

Although it doesn't happen often I do ensure that I always redeem with Vudu if Movies Anywhere is not an option. Vudu is on every device I own (Apple TV 4K, Shield TV, Roku Stick, iPhone, iPad). I know if I redeem there I will be able to watch it on any device I own. Now I made this decision when I first started and maybe that's why I've been better off than others.

The fact that I have something that could pass the babysitter test and I always have access to my entire movie collection; anywhere, anytime, I embrace the Digital side of Movie Watching.

Just my 2¢.

To be fair, a lot of the 'younger generation' did not grow up with physical media and are used to downloading and streaming for free. Plenty of people have a sense of entitlement when it comes to leisurely entertainment. In fact, I know a few folks who make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year and think the idea of buying a movie is absurd. A lot of younger folks also tend to live with parents or roommates and so space may be limited.

Trouble is it could kill off physical! With digital you never really own anything so it is a waste of money really in some respects.

I wouldn't buy a movie digitally.

If I did, it would be tied to my Vudu/Google Play/iTunes online account. It wouldn't be physically present in my house. It would be like I don't really own it.

When I see a digital movie for sale, I avoid it. No way am I buying a movie in that manner.

Physical boxes are nicer. They have box art. Limited editions, like steelbooks, are even nicer and look great displayed on a shelf. Perhaps best of all, with physical media, you hold it and play it anytime you want. It is truly yours, just like vinyl records.

I wouldn't recommend digital media. It is truly disposable.

See if you still embrace it when half your collection goes missing because some group on social media are kicking up a fuss about some ‘issue’ with a film.
