Has anyone heard anything more yet? Shipping from China to the US doesn't take this long unless they're sending it by ocean.

The packaging of the final boxes sent to customers is quite large. Only so many can be sent in a particular box by a distributor. In addition, there are extra postal charges when a box's total length/width/height dimensions are above a certain amount. I assume the distributor is sending as many as possible without getting hit by extra fees, and that some boxes arrive at different times due to the post office being the post office.

I could just be ignorant since I'm no expert in shipping but of the 20 disc boxes (the number bought by those in the USA) doesn't seem too large. I assume they have hubs in different countries, ie ones going to UK are not going to be sent to US first, they're going to go to Europe.

If it's like their last shipment of "The Horse Thief", I'm guessing the blurays would all be individually packed in MLIFE-branded boxes for maximum safety, which would then be packed in bigger boxes. That could potentially make the actual units being shipped substantially bigger.

Exactly. I assume that the packages sent to customers come fully packaged. The people at the hub presumably just inspect the individual boxes before taping them up and shipping them out. I don't have the last box I was sent but I think the overall box dimensions (L+W+D) were close to 20". That's really large for a single Blu, even one in a small box itself. I think a distributor can only send 6-7 of those in one box before they get hit with excessive size surcharges. That's true in the States, at least. I don't know about China/HK but I assume they have something similar.

In any event, I assume that they've calculated the cheapest way to get everything around. All we can do is be patient.

I don't recall being charged $7 for priority shipping other times, they usually sent it media mail?

I received mine last week and it was shipped USPS media mail rate from Grayson, Louisiana. It took exactly 6 days and I live in California for reference.

It didn't say anything about Priority Mail in my invoice. It did seem weird that so much is being charged for shipping, especially since it's presumably going out via Media Mail. Unless this thing is going to weigh, like, 10 lbs., it shouldn't even cost $3 (raw postage amount) to ship via Media Mail. :/ Oh well.

Mailing date: Jun 18, 2019
Shipper: U.S. Postal Service
Tracking number: [removed]
Service type: Media MailŪ

So they made me pay $7 for media mail...eyeroll...I just assumed it was $7 for faster shipping since all the other times I've never had to pay extra money for the shipping. Even brought up old invoices to make sure I wasn't losing it.

Hi. I gave the disc a quick spin today. Is it just me or is the film kinda dark/dull? Not sure if it was shot that way or something was screwed up in the production chain. I'm guessing the former. Other than that, it looked & sounded fine during my spot check. As usual, the Tony Rayns talk is first rate, and the packaging is top notch.

One thing to note is that, when German is spoken in the film, there are burned-in Chinese subs. Soft English subs are shown at the top of the screen. A bit annoying but it could be worse.

EDIT: Also, in case anybody's curious, this set is limited to 700 copies.

It arrived last Friday but I had to sign for it and wasn't around. Finally got it. Set 009/700. Very cool!

Not exactly. When they say "To Order," it means best-effort ordering. You may get it, you may not. Either way, the prices are grossly inflated compared to what they were when they originally came out.
