The film is awful for two reasons, HTD was a superb 1970s comic filled with satire and counter culture, both of which hadn't aged too well by the mid 80s and the terrible duck suit. There's a glimpse of Howard at the end of Guardians Of The Galaxy 2, so maybe there could be a return.
Only see the film if you're into 80s nostalgia, but the original run of comics was groundbreaking |

It is what it is: a not particularly faithful adaptation of a cult comic book character that retains a bit of the off-beat quirkiness and crowbars it into a very of-its-time teenage-aimed Hollywood sci-fi story with mad baddies firing lightning from their fingers, a giant stop-frame monster, car chases and cop cars rolling over...
Its Eighties-ness may have given it a bit more interest than it had at the time, but I'd say this was mostly for those who saw it as kids at the time. I wonder if it might have been more popular had it featured an animated Howard - á la Roger Rabbit - rather than a dreadful costume worn by a dwarf? Either way, if you want an Eighties sci-fi flop with cult appeal you're far better off with Buckaroo Banzai. |

A few seconds into that Good Bad Flicks video and the first thing that springs to mind is how gorgeous that John Barry score is.
Someone needs to issue that on CD! Last edited by indisposed; 03-06-2019 at 07:25 PM. |

Just for the record, I'd like you to know I have rather large hands, and genuinely am 6'3'', unlike Agent Fake Orange in the White House.......

I wonder how many people bagging on Howard The Duck have ever actually WATCHED it, or only base their opinions on what the Nostalgia Critic had to say?
![]() It's an awkward movie, to be sure, and yet it's far more honestly entertaining than a lot of movies that frequently top "worst ever!" lists. There are some genuinely funny moments, the F/X are top-notch, it has a wonderful John Barry score and some catchy pop tracks (just try to get the title song out of your head), and, oh yeah... ![]() ![]() |

I had my picture taken with her once. I had no idea she was so much shorter than me.
