I read the feature article in Rue Morgue (July, 2012 issue), there’s an interview with the director and the actor that played the son.

Some very interesting stuff was cut from the script: the entity invaded the mother’s dreams, forcing her to have very impure thoughts about her (handsome) son (sadly never shot).
If you have read the book it's the film is based on you should. It very good and made all the more interesting since it is based on a true happening. It made all the more sad because since the book and film were done the real woman it's based on was commited, and has since died.

As long as you have nothing against rape in movies, then you should be fine blind buying it. It’s actually really creepy & scary & it takes a lot to scare me, the music only intensified the scenes even more.

Yes, I own the book (recently reprinted) and have read it. Excellent book!

I’m familiar with the 1974 case (a paranormal classic) the film is based on. Terrifying if true.

[Show spoiler]The 1976 novel “Incubus” by Ray Russell, is another great book about a sexual demon.

Very few movies give me an actual sense of dread while watching them. This is one of them.

The movie takes what could be a very hokey premise and presents it in a very matter of fact way that gives the film a lot more weight than a person would expect. Some of the effects are also impressive for the time
[Show spoiler]during one rape our lead has her breasts fondled by an invisible force and the viewer can see pressure imprints as if someone is grabbing them but there is nothing actually there. This scene continues to impress the hell out of me as it was done before CGI and is quite convincing when paired with her panic/struggle

The most significant criticism of this film comes by way of the ending though. Ignoring the events of reality (which, to be honest they had to for reasons I won't spoil here) they instead whipped up some fairly typical Hollywood BS which leaves things feeling very unresolved. The final moments of the film however have a text crawl explaining what actually happened in real life which helps to explain why they chose to go the direction they did and will likely leave the viewer with even more questions (and if they're anything like me, off to complete a google search to read more about the case).

The Entity isn't a fun horror film the way that so many fan favorites are. It plays things straight and provides a generally unsettling ghost story. It's well acted for the most part and an interesting viewing though it's not something you'll likely have the desire to re-visit often. It's been several years since I last watched the Anchor Bay Blu Ray but I've been itching to re-visit for a while now. I'll likely be double dipping on this. I'd consider it well worth watching at least once for fans of 70's - 80's horror.

I am a huge fan of this film, already owning the US, UK & German Blu-rays and the old Anchor Bay DVD ... but damnit, the film needs a new scan. The current master isn't "bad" but is years old now and could certainly use a newer scan.

At least they are porting over all of the old DVD extras, and hopefully doing some worthwhile new ones.

Shout will really need to do a perfect encode to beat the German release.

Good movie, but it truly baffles me how anybody can believe this is based on a true story. Same with The Amityville Horror.

The DVD I rented years ago had a featurette in which, if I remember correctly, one of the real-life paranormal investigators who was involved with the case (not sure if it was Dr. Barry Taff or the other) said the producers wanted a bigger ending and so he suggested
[Show spoiler]the trap involving a house mock-up and liquid helium
, as it was something they would have tried for real at the time if they had had the resources. I thought it was rather creative.

It is based on a documented true story, and doesn't really have the "hoax" aspect associated with it like The Amityville Horror.

If you mean "the ending" of the movie, then yes... that is entirely Hollywood fiction.

On subsequent revisits I warmed up to the ending and what they were trying to go for... On my first viewing though I remember thinking "what the hell?" and just feeling really disappointed with how things concluded. I do appreciate the attempts to do something that may have been done in reality though had they had the resources as it does make the closing scenes make a bit more sense in the grand scheme of things. I think I had read that once before myself but it's nice to see it brought back up again to add additional insight into how/why things were filmed the way they were.

Came here to express a similar sentiment. When it comes to horror films, I don't frighten easily and I seldom feel a sense of discomfort after watching one. THE ENTITY is one of those rare exceptions of a film that terrifies the hell out of me!

Here are the early details we have at present time:

• National street date for U.S. only (Region A) is June 11th.

• Release will come with a slipcover (guaranteed for three months after its original release date).

• The newly-commissioned artwork pictured comes to us from Joel Robinson (10 to Midnight, Silent Night Deadly Night, Candyman). This art will be front-facing and the reverse side of the wrap will the original theatrical poster design (aka: the big glowing title treatment).

• Extras are pretty much finalized but will confirm more on a later date. What we can announce today though is that all extras from the prior DVD will be ported over and we have new exclusive interviews with actor David Labiosa, Film Editor Frank J. Urioste, legendary genre Composer Charles Bernstein (A Nightmare on Elm Street, Cujo) and the star of the film herself, Academy-Ward nominee BARBARA HERSHEY!

Pre-orders on our site begin today. Includes the Blu-ray plus a rolled 18” x 24” poster of the new art. The poster exclusive to us and will be made at a limited-run.

As someone who never got the AB Blu because of the lack of features, this is an automatic day 1 because of the new interview with Barbara Hershey.

*also, given how integral the sound is to the film, even though I doubt they'll have access, it would be really cool if Scream did similarly as they did with "The Thing" and had a DTS-HD 4.1 track.
