I didn't know a thing about The Art of Self-Defense other than a trailer I saw once a while back, so I didn't know what to expect. I really enjoyed this movie and was surprised by the dark turn it took. I would say the intent is greater than the execution, if that makes sense, but it's still something worth watching.

I saw it, enjoyed it alot, sleeper hit of the year for me. Dark comedy, def buy it when it comes out

Saw it today. Terrific film with terrific performances all around. Like others, was surprised by the extremely dark turn it took and pretty much left all comedic aspects in the dust for the most part. Highly, highly recommended if you're cool with dark humor, dark/disturbing themes and excessive violence. Will most likely find its way to my 2019 top 10. An easy 4.5/5 from me. Wonderful!

At first I thought they were going to take this movie in the direction of the "fake martial arts" that plagued the strip malls and youth centers of the '80s when all those ninja and karate movies came out and we got con artists like Frank Dux and George Dillman.

Then I thought they were going with closet homosexual in a position of power over easily-influenced younger men as soon as one particular scene took place, but that would've offend a lot of groups.

Definitely did not see what was coming in the second half, which is a good thing, even if I don't think it entirely works.

Decent movie this. Explores the pitfalls of machismo and the alpha male scenario, whilst at the same time promoting feminism. It's very funny in places and demands a bit of the viewer in terms of ignoring implausibility.

I was glad I caught this in theaters. I really loved it at first but damn it gets dark and f*cked up during the second half. As an animal lover I have to say

disturbed me and left a bad taste in my mouth. If it weren't for that this would have been an A-. Other than that it's quite ****ing funny (especially at first) and still a damn good movie.
