When I first saw the trailer, it was fairly obviously going to be very divisive. I don't see how it couldn't be. I'm still really looking forward to it, that's for sure.

I saw this at an early screening last night and it’s a lot of fun! The audience I was in laughed hysterically throughout the entire film and applauded at the end. Beanie Feldstein was good in Lady Bird, but she really gets to shine in this, being that she’s the lead. I think this could be her breakout role.

I can agree with you there. I saw this trailer and I wanted to ram by head against a brick wall, it was so groan worthy. I know comedy is subjective but that was as unfunny as it can get.

Without giving too much away, the girls are looking for this big party they are seeing on social media, and end up detouring to a few other parties along the way.

But did anyone else think the big party was kind of... underwhelming? I'm pretty sure anyone who has ever gone to high school has gone to a better party than that. And the parties they stop at along the way are ultimately kind of pointless.

It's a fun harmless movie, I just didn't find it very cohesive. It could have come together better at the end.

Also, the final scene loses a bit of poignancy when you realize
[Show spoiler]they are saying goodbye so that one of them can go overseas to make tampons for the underprivileged. Too silly when trying to be serious.

As far as these modern female-driven teen comedies go, I preferred Blockers and Never Goin' Back. Still, if you enjoy teen comedies, this is definitely recommended.

I could see it being a movie I enjoy more on the second viewing at home with curbed expectations and no cellphone screens in the audience.

Maybe things have changed but for advanced screenings they normally have security or even the studio reps keeping an eye on people with their cellphones. You can’t pull out your phone in advance screenings due to piracy concerns.

It said that on the ticket and there was a guy standing on the left side of the theater, but there were still a lot of glowing screens throughout the movie. The guy never moved the entire movie.

They are doing more advanced screenings on the 17th.

By the time this movie is released, everyone who wants to see it will have seen it already.

I remember when Serenity (The Whedon/Firefly one) came out they did the same thing. There were screenings of it all over the place - some of them months in advance - and I was thinking, "this film is great, but it's not gonna make any money if everyone who wants to see it has already seen it for free!"

...sadly, i was right.

Between Endgame, Detective Pikachu and John Wick Chapter 3 I doubt everyone is desperately wanting to see this, even if its free.

She's in it a fair amount. Her character is on drugs the whole movie and the gag is that she is constantly popping up in random places throughout the night and acting silly.

I’ll jump off a ledge and say it: this is WAY funnier than Superbad.

Superbad has a great cast, and it is a lot of fun to watch. Booksmart is better, and funnier. It's too bad movies like this are never nominated for Oscars. The performances of the two leads, the script, the directing by Olivia Wilde...all are worthy.

Come on, Academy! Prove me wrong! PLEASE!

This looks like it could be a riot (and it was great to see Jessica Williams in that clip); it's right up there with ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD, MIDSOMMAR, THE DEAD DON'T DIE and ANNA for my must-see viewing this summer.

Will add that director Olivia Wilde will be a guest on Stephen Colbert tonight for those who may be interested.

You know, since the first six minutes were free, I figured to clear my mind and give it a chance to win me over and get me on board.
After that, I can't get on board with this. I was just painfully unfunny and cringey.

When you see this, I'll be curious to know what you thought about it.

My school hosted an advanced screening of this about a month ago and it is truly one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in a long time. So fresh, sweet and charming but equally raunchy and cruel in perfect measure. It’s one of my absolute favorites from this year so far and I’m thinking it will stay that way.
