Universal Halts Marketing for The Hunt

Universal is putting the brakes on the marketing for their Blumhouse release The Hunt in the wake of recent mass shootings which have taken the lives of 34 people in El Paso, Texas; Dayton, Ohio; and Gilroy, California.

“Out of sensitivity to the attention on the country’s recent shooting tragedies, Universal Pictures and the filmmakers of The Hunt have temporarily paused its marketing campaign and are reviewing materials as we move forward,” said a studio rep in a statement.

Deadline hears that there will not be any TV or digital spots for The Hunt, nor will there be any outdoor advertisements.

Given the political nature of the movie, I'm not surprised.
Odds are that the release date will be shifted, rather than cancelled outright.

Not just the political tension going on--but also look at the Jeffery Epstein case. A powerful billionaire, about to expose other people of his stature, conveniently kills himself before he makes it to trial.

This film just has too much political commentary, that's a little too sensitive at this point in time, to be released.

Violent video games and movies etc don’t need to be censored, but I do think advertising/romanticizing guns and violence to sell things is not cool and cringy. Something is wrong when nudity gets a restricted rating to 17+ age but guns and violence as long as the blood is minimal is suitable for 13 and younger is weird...

I’ve also been in films aimed at kids with violent trailers for things. Gemini man is one that comes to mind.

No it’s not going to end mass shootings, but it’s one part of many problems. Including assault weapons. And fear tactics to make people afraid of immigrants, and people not having healthcare and not having decent living wages etc etc
