I've never read a source for that. Jan Harlan has this to say:

If it's coming in October, I would say that's close enough to qualify. Sooner is always better than later.

Already owning both cuts already, why not add one more(the bluray has not aged well, dnr is high and the contrast is botched)

Thanks everyone for letting me know about the international/non-American cut. I always thought the movie could use some trimming, so I am excited to give this one a go later!

Shorter version has a lot more of a claustrophobic atmosphere, IMO.

I must be the only one on this site that doesn't care for this.

I've seen it once on DVD but it did nothing for me... But I'm glad for y'all it's coming on UHD.

Yeah, I would love to add back the mono track as a option. We’ll see about a new mix, as the justification used for 5.1 remixes was that Kubrick had been discussing them before his death and they used the original mix as the source for everything, which I’m not sure you could argue for an immersive mix (unless Kubrick had given his blessing for any new sound format which came along).

Not a source for the existence of the international version, but a source for Kubrick's reasoning. I am doubting that Kubrick's reasoning boiled down to "Americans are stupid," especially seeing as how he was American.

This is unfortunate. Hopefully some kind soul will grab it from an old LaserDisc or something.

The sequel film was originally slated for 2020 but was pushed up to this fall- Doctor Sleep from director Mike Flanagan.
