Wheres your PS3? Any how do you live without it?

J/K... I haven't used the PS3 all day...it will change tonight when I get on COD4!

I only have this happen with COD4.....and it happens often...

which is funny..so let me repeat...

it only happens with this one game....and it happens about 3x a night when I play...

I am no longer having problems trying to get into a room...but the connection problem still exists..

also..it actually knocks my modem off and my whole connection drops...but I could be logged in for hours and have no problem...

this makes no sense...how can a game knock my modem off completely?

Well i've got the new dgl-4500 and it's a wireless n draft 2.0 gaming router and it happens to me as well. I've even plugged in a cat 5 to my playstation 3 which goes back to the gigabit lan ports and while playing ratchet i was signed out.
An error has occured and you are being signed out...even when it's hardwired.

At least we're not suffering like those only on live are i was in the beta on xbox
1 and i've never seen it so bad as it is now. Fall update screwed it up.

Whether wi-fi or wired it still happens so i'd say sony needs to adress it or perhaps they're already aware and will fix it in the home update.

This is an explantion of UPnP:
Used by certain programs to automatically open ports for communication.

COD4 might be trying to open some ports and it might mess with your router causing it to lose connection. I don't have UPnP enabled and I don't have any problems with communication on COD4.

I have the same exact problem.. I will ge kicked out and signed off repeatedly. It will even sometimes say you don't have an ethernet connection check your network settings.

My questions is who is your interent provider? Mine is Time Warner.

I think you may have replied to my post accidentally, because it was pretty obvious from my post I have an Apple Airport network.

We have an Airport Extreme as the main router, with an Airport Express downstairs to extend it.

I wouldn't use a Linksys router if you PAID me... they suck.

@OP: A simple way to test if the problem is with the device or the router is, when your PS3 loses connection, do all of your other devices (laptop/desktop/whatever)? If the answer is YES, then it's a router problem.

If the answer is NO, then there's only 2 possibilities: either the device has a problem with signal and/or configuration, or the router has a problem with signal and/or configuration. Since the config on the PS3 is pretty straightforward, it's prolly not that.

Again, I'll say that there is probably either (a) some interference on the PS3 that's preventing it from keeping a seamless connection, or (b) the router needs some config tweaks.

If your router has an option to see all devices connected to it, take a look at that and see what the signal-to-noise ratio is on the PS3 (it will probably show it by its MAC address). If you don't have at least 60% signal, then there's too much interference. If you DO have 60% or better signal, then it's a config issue.

Sooo....seeing as that my PS3 is about 15 feet away from my linksys router and it shows a 100% connection and I looked into the settings of the router when I found out by default it gives me a NAT Type 3 and had to configure the DMZ or whatever to get an NAT Type 2, what the **** else do I need to do to my router?

This happens to me only when i'm not playing online, if i'm offline my ps3 connects wirelessly automatically, and to connect i have to go through "test connection"

but if i go directly online the problem never occurs.

annoying

Disable the UPnP options in both the ps3 network settings and the router.

Meh, this happened to me too but all I did was release and request a new IP from TWC and it worked.

UPDATE: I just turned the system off & on again, now it's working

Prolly has to do with the packets that game uses. If you can, try flagging the PS3 as part of a DMZ [so it bypasses all firewalls yada yada].

In case it will help anyone else. For what ever reason, my PS3 started kicking my PC off the internet. After 20 seconds, the PC would automatically reconnect and knock my PS3 from a NAT TYPE 2 to a NAT TYPE 3. NAT TYPE 3 allowed me to get to the PS Store but not to COD4 server. I unplugged the network cable to the PC and got NAT TYPE 2 solid. Was able to download update 1.30 . I'm going to try to set up a static IP and Port Forward on my WIFI Router to eliminate the problem for good. I dont know why this just started happening thow.
