I'm loving the original cover more than the steelbook one.

If you by original cover mean the cover that is currently showing for the regular release, I am pretty sure that is just a fanmade cover by one of our members. Same as with The Lion King (2019), Avengers: Endgame, Hellboy (2019), Godzilla King of Monsters and John Wick Chapter 3. I have tried suggesting that he puts "Artwork not final" or "Artwork TBC" on them to avoid misunderstandings that they are the official covers.

I'm pretty sure the original Aladdin will get a 4K once the Signature Edition is released. A 1992 CAPS film is not the same case as a 1941/1950 cel animated film.

Did anyone see this in Dolby Cinema - the presentation I saw on said screen at Tyson's Corner this afternoon, sounded great, but the image seem less sharp, and dull in the color palette.

I doubt that very much. If that were the case they wouldn't have re-released The Little Mermaid or The Lion King in 4K. Much less Cinderella on Blu-ray again or the remake on 4K. Why would they even bother putting out all or most of the MCU movies on 4K if the streaming service is going to be out in a few months? That makes no sense. I think Disney is just hedging their bets. They don't want to put all their eggs in one basket (in this case their streaming platform) in case the platform doesn't perform as expected. And that may end up being the case. People don't really want specialized streaming services from what I can tell. They want a one-stop shop for their streaming services. If all the studios pull the plug on the other sites and do their own, they are going to end up gorging on each other. It won't be pretty. Though that may be wishful thinking. We'll just have to see. I think though consumers are too spoiled and may be very hesitant to change.

I usually don't go for too many Steelbooks these days (I don't really care about box art, since my movies just sorta sit on my shelf, where I can't see the covers), but that Steelbook looks beautiful (reminiscent of the teaser poster for the 1992 film), and I loved the film. I will definitely be going for it.

Dang it,

Steelbook is already unavailable for pickup at my local BBY.
But still available for pickup from surrounding towns, 70+ miles.
I’ll just have to wait for a midnight order the day before release I guess.

The little plastic toy lamps that you can rub are available at Disney Stores though!

Or cement the order now and change the pickup location later as it updates over the next 3 months.

saw it at a Dolby Cinema, colors looked pretty rich to me, sound was good but vastly too loud as usual per DC (pure hearing damage without musician's earplugs), sharpness varied a bit (for starters it is a 2k DCP) from a trace softish to pretty sharp (for 2k only of course), certainly not something to be confused for a 4k DCP

i've actually never seen the original, really liked this one, princess has some real star power, genie seemed fine to me (although it may have been vastly easier for me to accept a Will Smith version since I'm not really familiar with the Robin Williams version and didn't have that hang up going in), monkey was pretty funny at times, a few times it went to a sort of kooky (but in a good way) cartoon-like hyper animated and even syncapated style of motion

Wow, I was not expecting Aladdin 2019 to be a great movie experience. The trailers did not do the live adaption of Aladdin any justice.

I don't know what exclusive I'll pick up, but it'll be a day one purchase that's for sure. Also, I cannot wait until the original Aladdin gets released from the ludicrous "vault system," with a Signature Collection edition. I missed out on the Aladdin Diamond Edition on Blu-ray and I want to experience that movie in high def.

I'm guessing you may already know this, but the British Blu-Ray is not region-locked and looks just as good as the Diamond Edition that came out here in the States a few years ago, and it looks to cost about as much as it would if it were still available in North America.
