In addition to being released as a Blu-ray Steelbook 3-Movie Collection,
The Santa Clause (1994) was released today in a remastered Native 4K version. This is significant for a few reasons: This is the first live-action Disney catalog title to have a native 4K remaster/transfer released at this time (all others are animated or 2K DI Upscales.) This is also the first time that Disney has released a 4K title exclusively on Digital and not on disc. I was able to sample this 4K version before leaving for work this morning. It looks very healthy - The picture is extremely stable. It features plenty of grain (sometimes the grain does look a bit chunky) and the release does not appear to have had it's detail wiped away. HDR /DV use seems a tad restrained. The overall image seems a tad darker than the previous blu-ray, but the image is quite nice. The Audio appears to be the same 5.1 track used on the previous releases. As for the specs on the two versions - both are presented in Native 4K at 1.85:1. The VUDU UHD version features Dolby Vision and a Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 track. (No Atmos like all previous Disney titles) while the Movies Anywhere Version currently features HDR-10 and a Dolby Digital 5.1 track. |

Do you think the digital slip included with the steelbook will redeem in 4K in movies anywhere?

So, here's my question. I fully understand that the native 4K version was only released digitally, and that the new disc release is just regular Blu-Ray. But is the new 1080p Blu-Ray sourced from the new 4K transfer, or is it just the same transfer on the disc that has been available for several years now? |

Why not just release in 4K and BR already ???? Man we know this will eventually come out on 4K steel. Im starting to jump on the 4K bandwagon more and more.

Depending on the price, I would love to import this to the UK. I'm hoping Zavvi will announce this soon though.

Got this in the mail today.... really dig it.
The dead Santa on the cover is embossed (or debased.... I'm not super familiar with the lingo! The Santa and the imprinted snow around him are textured. I really only like the 1st movie... but I owned all 3 on DVD and now I can save space on my shelf by getting rid of those! |
