don't really bother me. completeness is not a stand-alone criteria to me, but a part of the price-performance matrix. If I were to pay full-retail, I'd expect everything and in new condition, If I were charged $5, anything more than the UHD BD itself is considered a bonus.
but the most crucial per-requisite for me is that the discs play without a hitch, that's why I've only bought used UHD from local stores with reasonable return policy. |

When I was buying DVD's, I rarely did it because they were usually too beat up. That changed with BD, due to their scratch resistance. Unfortunately, I don't run across too many that I don't have or that I couldn't buy new for the about the same price. But every now & then I find a deal.

I do buy used. I hope the "package" is complete, but if not, "meh". Ultimately it's the disc that counts. As someone else posted, there's a few things that are OOP and very difficult to find and the choice is used or wonder what it's like. One example for me is Two Rode Together from Twilight Time that was a sold out, limited edition. Picked it up complete for about $25 used. If I hadn't done that, I would be out of luck. I'll pick the used any day. Also saves a ton of money at times. I don't get why you wouldn't, but then then we all have our preferences.

With 4K so far I haven't bought anything used, but I'm not against it, if it's cheaper. Unfortunately there isn't any opportunity to buy local and I find buying online by the time you add shipping it's cheaper to buy new, that's been my experience.

I would say about half of my 4K collection is used for the sheer fact I bought a 4K disc for specific movies to place in my current steelbooks. Only one disc so far (Man of Steel) wouldn't play, but I was able to wipe it with a lens cloth and all was fine afterwards. Otherwise, I've spent an average $4 to $12 for a disc by itself.

i buy used pretty much all the time. the local place here in AZ it's called Zia records and i buy my UHD movies there, with disney movies usually it's half off $14.99 and i have a %10 discount. what i mostly want is the physical disc, oftentimes it's the blu and the 4k disc and maybe half the time the DC is included. so if i can get new releases for half off or a little more i will do it. especially this week with 8 releases i want, half off will come in very handy. i am not too good for used

If I bought all new titles, I'd have around 50. Since I prefer to buy lots of 3-5 used titles on eBay I have over 120. My local pawn shop has 4k for $8 each as well. On occasion I find a title with a missing slip or disc, but I hunt them down on eBay, no worries. As a Pro tip, I use Kimwipes on my professional camera lenses and they are stellar at removing fingerprints and crud off discs. Just wipe lightly and never in a circular motion.

bought plenty of used 4K discs w/o any issues..in fact its my preferred buying option as a decent amount of $$ can be saved. I've bought very few "new" discs. I will if the price is already low (under $20) or I just can't wait. Having incomplete sets doesn't bother me either..90% of the time I just want the 4K disc and not worried about the Blu-ray disc unless it contains some amazing extras..and even then I don't sweat it much as you can usually find the extras somewhere online to watch..I keep all of my discs in Binders to cut down on space

I live in Canada and buy from the US quite often, to avoid the annoying bilingual artwork and text. It's a somewhat silly thing to be annoyed by but I am. Therefore, I do buy used fairly often from amazon US' 3rd party sellers. Once, shipping and import fees are calculated it's very costly to buy movies new. Unless I really want the movie and don't want to wait, I often buy it used for $10-$12 a couple of months or so after release. I've never had a single issue with playback, although, I mostly purchase from the same seller.
All I need is the original case/artwork and the 4K disc. I don't care for anything else really. |

Interesting thoughts here everyone, and thanks to all who weighed in. I suppose I should let my “collector OCD” fall to the side, in favor of saving money.
Well, I guess it’s time to update my collection. ![]() |

I at least need the case and all discs. I buy used blu rays local. I've bought a couple UHD's used off ebay, early on, but I'm also leery of disc damage for sensitive UHD's. Slipcover is nice too, and I've recently grown mildly annoyed by the few UHD's I don't have slips for, or the couple that just never had slips produced.
Got Passengers UHD local a few weeks ago, still sealed, for $6 since they don't really know the difference between BD's and UHD's. Sold the code and paid nothing. I've always been a collector, but back in 2007, I lost a lot of stuff in a fire and ended up snapping many, many game and movie discs out of melted blob plastic cases with a screwdriver... kept some huge binders for years after that, eventually sold those on craigslist, and have only gotten back into collecting in the last 3-5 years. Now I'm all CIB as much as I can be. |

I have bought single discs, and full sets lacking digital...and 4k set lacking bd and digital from set....All right here on the forum with no issues.I usually combine them with my existing sets of the movies, steelbooks, 3 disc sets, etc from the BD releases or just order some extra 4K cases and print covers. My last was a purchase of the 2 4k discs from Apocolypse Now...15 bucks shipped..AWESOME!!

I can understand it with CDs and DVDs because those discs were easily scratched and people dont always handle them with care. But blurays and UHDs are so damn hard to scratch that there isnt much risk of a used bluray or UHD being damaged or unplayable.

I have to have the who package. I've bought used movies and ex-rental copies but they were the kind that are cleaned up and put in a new case. I don't care about slipcovers since 99% of the time they are identical to the inside sleeve.
A friend of mine recently told me she threw out all the cases and put her DVDs and BluRays in a binder and I was horrified, especially since I'd given her a lot of movies I didn't want or need any more. Wish I hadn't now... |
