#1 - Arachnophobia
![]() Re-watched this one again. Not out here in the UK so imported it several years ago. A really fun, family tinged horror...the sort of film that Amblin does very well. Last edited by Captain James; 10-02-2019 at 07:02 AM. |

![]() Love this film. So simple in concept, but a great thriller. I remember seeing this for the first time, on TV back in the 80s, was terrified by the truck who, along with Dennis Weaver, is the star of this one. Some decent extras too - a half hour interview with Spielberg, another 10/15 minute piece with Spielberg, and then a 10 minute piece with the author of the original short story and screenplay Richard Matheson. Only (minor) gripe, is that it would have been nice to have both cuts of the film - the original TVM version (74 mins) and the theatrical version (89 mins) - here we just get the theatrical cut - which is fine as that's the only version I remember seeing, but still, t'would have been nice.... |

With at least 3 hrs a day spent commuting, a 2 year old at home and a wife who doesn't like horror it's always seemed a bit pointless trying to take part in the past.
I barely manage to watch 2 or 3 films a week of any kind. Let alone horror. (So why the hell do I spend so much money on blu-rays??) The only opportunity for horror is usually Fri or Saturday after midnight when my wife has gone to bed. And typically I then fall asleep about half hour in to the film! However, I had specifically been thinking of this as a way to try and reduce my backlog this year. So I shall stop moaning and see if I can get up to 10 or 15 .... #1 - La Residencia/The House that Screamed ![]() First watch. Heard good things about this for years but never managed to see it. Wasn't disappointed. Beautifully made, memorable. |

I've sort of done this in the past, but never finish. I'm making the effort this year. I'll watch at least 31, but I've got so many more I may watch. My only rule is to watch something I've not seen on Blu-ray (but may have seen on DVD), although there will be a couple of exceptions

Grizzly This was...interesting to say the least. Lots of fun in places, rather dull in others. I enjoyed it for what it was and I'd say if you have an interest in 'Nature-fights-back' horror its worth a watch just for the face-off at the end. [Show spoiler] ![]() |

#2. The Hills Have Eyes Part II (1984) - First watch
![]() I knew this had a lousy reputation... and I can see why. The Hills Have Eyes meets a Friday the 13th knock-off. Not unwatchable by any means and I really enjoyed the finale, but I did catch my mind start to wander at times. There's a moment where the bus is out of gas and a character says they're running on fumes... a perfect metaphor for the film. #3. Graduation Day (1981) - First watch ![]() A real mixed bag this one. There's definite potential. Some nice set pieces, character moments and has some interesting ideas and sense of style. Sadly it's barely held together by an unfocused, messy script with a weak narrative through line. Previously... #1. Happy Death Day (2017) - First watch |

I started a bit "light" this year.
![]() #1: Pit and the Pendulum (Vincent Price) It is still an very entertaining movie. Vincent Pricw great as always. #2: John dies at the end Saw this for the first time. A weird but fun trip through different genres. Last edited by chlodwig; 10-03-2019 at 05:25 AM. |

#2 - The Last Days on Mars
![]() A visually striking, atmospheric sci-fi horror with a quite beautiful score by Max Richter. Perhaps unfairly labelled a '28 Days Later on Mars', this was in fact based upon a 1975 short story by Sydney James Bounds. Well worth tracking down if you haven't seen it. |
