Vudu, simply because it has more options at this time. (MD2D/Vudu App available everywhere/free movies ). However when iTunes releases its app and if the quality is as good as the current 4K box (which i hear streams at a higher bit rate than anyone else) - I'll probably go there more often.
The free 4K upgrade thing is also very cool. I'll most likely use both. Last edited by bladerunner1; 10-07-2019 at 08:51 PM. |

I prefer iTunes myself as its part of my ecosystem with my iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. The sales are very good - especially for TV seasons. I also like being able to purchase gift cards at a discount.
Really wish more companies would join MA and hoping Disney will allow 4K on iTunes once all the 4K discs are released and Disney+ starts. Curious is the Disney+ app will allow 4K viewing on the Apple TV |

VUDU for me. It's very simple to use, video quality for me is great and it's available on basically every device I own. Plus I hate the fact that on iTunes you can't buy a movie again if you already own it. Yes I know you can "gift" it to yourself but that doesn't help when you're trying to get a 4K version and gifted movies don't port to MA so you're stuck only owning the 4K on iTunes. VUDU will still allow you to purchase the 4K if you own a movie in HDX.

Sadly, there is (and likely will never be) one singular "best place" for digital movies.
My daily driver is VUDU, which is where I keep the collection that is closest to my physical collection. Disc-to-digital is great, as is Instawatch (sort of). They have Disney in 4K, TV series, pretty good sales, apps on pretty much every device I own, and all the studios. A simple way to upgrade to higher quality on titles I already own is HUGE (it kills me that I can't do this in iTunes!). Movies Anywhere is what I give my kids to use (can set their profile with a G and PG only filter). I wish it could really be my all-inclusive one-stop place, but it's far from that right now. MGM, Paramount, STX, Lionsgate and smaller studios not participating is kind of a big deal (together accounts for about 20%+ of my collection). No TV series is also a bummer. Like that they now have Dolby Vision and Atmos support (where available). I would love nothing more than to make iTunes my store of choice. I like the clean interface, the sales are good (though not as good as VUDU most of the time), 4K upgrades are a nice perk (though I don't know which studios all participate in that) and being able to watch my HDR titles in HDR on my iPhone XS Max is great. They also have a handful of titles that aren't on VUDU (Paramount's "Wonder Boys"). That said, they don't get Disney in 4K and until AirPlay 2 and Apple TV apps start rolling out to my Vizio TV and Rokus, I can't watch my content on my TVs without tethering my phone by HDMI. If those rolled out soon and at least a couple of those holdout studios joined up with MA, iTunes would be my new go-to place. |

There have been a handful of these threads over the years, and I still prefer Vudu. I do have Apple devices as well, including ATV4K. We never touch the ATV because it just is not as family friendly as Roku.
Honestly, if it wasn’t for UV and Vudu, I would never have started my digital collection. Those two actually made digital copies available for everyone, not just owners of a specific brand. UV changed the landscape and opened the door for MA. I mentioned this for years, that If iTunes would release an “app” for other devices (like Roku) then they could have easily handed Vudu the reaper card. I am sure if they would have made iTunes available on as many devices as Vudu has, UV would not have been as big as it was, and MA probably wouldn’t exist. iTunes would still be the digital copy redemption place. They are finally doing that (slowly still) but Vudu has much more of a following today compared to 5 - 7 years ago. |

When digital copies became a thing I was strictly itunes. When vudu started offering disc to digital I switched to vudu and have been Vudu since. I have
1111 movies on vudu and 17 tv shows so vudu would still be my choice if I had to pick one. Plus it has been available on ps4, xbox, and other steaming devices. I know Apple tv+ will be available on streaming devices and game consoles in November and apple automatically upgrades movies that are available in 4k. And as someone said if a service goes down vudu would probably go down before apple so that the plus side of apple. For now I am more loyal to vudu but will use both, along with amazon. |
