too much of the order of the phoenix was left out which made it the worst movie in the series. i think 2 movies is stupid, if the movie needs to be 3 hours, make it 3 hours.

I'm in agreement with two movies I guess, although I'd prefer just one long one even if it was four or more hours. And I also agree with Guillermo directing, though he might indeed be too busy. In addition to the projects already mention in a few previous posts I heard he's also planning to work on Mary Shelley's Frankenstien....now that's one I wanna see

If they are going to split the movie into 2 parts... they should copy what THE MATRIX did! 2 releases within 2 months..

Two movies would be fine in my book, if they did it a la The Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions, where they were shot at the same time and released only a few months apart.

Deathly Hallows is a LONG book with a LOT of detail that is essential to the story (unlike OotP, which was a lot of fluff). I could see them cutting out some things, but even scenes like the wedding, the trip to Godric's Hollow, sneaking into the Ministry... all of that had consequences that reverberated through the end of the book. Hell, just explaining the whole deathly hallows legend could take the better part of an hour.

I would be fine with two movies if they came out right one right after the other or if not two movies just make the one movie longer like Lord of the Rings and when it comes out on blu-ray give us some special extended edition.

I think this was already debunked after it was 'disocvered'. But yeah, I've been fine with whats been left out of the movies so far, and i love each and every one of them. Hallows on the other hand, I want everything. Whether they want to do it two movies or 4 hours, I dont care. As long as I get every single details from the start of the 'war' at Hogwarts straight to the end, I'll be happy.

They destroyed a room which plays heavily in the remainder of the series.

But in terms of literary adaptation the fourth movie took the most liberties, by introducing the villian before the opening credits when he isn't revealed until the end.

i agree with you totally! The movie was by far the worst in the series. And i dont think the 2 movie idea is a good one at all, i agree if it needs to be 3 hours then make it 3 hours and be done with it. Just me though

This talk is about the rumor making the last book in two movies, but I can't really avoid commenting that as far as I'm concerned the order of the phoenix was one of the best movies of the series, perhaps only equal to the prisoner of askaban. But still I don't not mean that viewers should have been totally satisfied with the content shown, there is some stuff so rich that could have added to the story. Nevertheless, there is the basics to keep on with the story. I agree with devoting more film time to the las book, as to the way they plan on doing it I find myself uncertain whether dividing the last book into two different movies would be the right or more appropriate way.
This is one dark story, one can seem to notice the darkening of the harry potter story with each following book, so if you think you've seen one such dark story with the order of the phoenix, wait and see the half blood prince. And later the deathly hollows.

Exactly, and its exactly because of the story of Voldemort, Horcruxes and the deathly hallows that detailed explanation is needed. I'm a relatively smart guy and I really had to wrap my head around how those 'items' fit into the story. Plus - the 'battle' scenes really deserve a full scale show-stopping scene - not the now-you-see-it, now-you-don't battle at the end of OotP

Back when they were still experimenting with A) more stylish non-Columbus directors in #3 and B) longer books in #4 vs. the word-for-word transcripts of the first three movies--
Warner was initially panicking about 700-page "Goblet of Fire", and was pitching that script as a closed two-part movie...What happened to that idea involves "Kill Bill" and "Matrix Revolutions".
Good part though, was that it taught the HP screenwriters the value of one-movie plot condensation, which not only made GoF one of the more streamlined movies, it also fixed most of the repetitive slog in "Order of the Phoenix"'s book.

Now studios are all buzzing about Pirates 3 and the two-part Hobbit rumors, and all of a sudden studios think serial-sequels can "work" again...
(Even though audiences were loudly disgruntled when they realized that Pirates 2 and "Golden Compass" were open-ended movies.)
It's an impossible-dream studios cling to (y'see, you can get people into TWO movies, for the budget of one!), but it's better for studios to learn to take their lumps and condense that one-movie script.

Hell I had not even thought about him for directing the last one, but hell what a good choice it would be. The last book is very dark anyways and has a fair amount off death.

Order of the Phoenix was the best MOVIE because they finally realized that the movie version SHOULD be different from the books. Order of the Phoenix was made for people who don't read the books, and thus flowed A LOT better than the previous efforts. That is how you should be making the movies.

Columbus was HORRIBLE for the series. The first two movies are a chore to watch. Only extreme Potter book fans like the first two movies. Or those that live in la la land and think the series should be all flowers and cupcakes.

Yates should finish the series. He actually knew how to make a movie and not just threw words on the screen with no purpose. Those that hate Phoenix need to understand a movie is different from a book. Things don't work on the screen like they do in a book and thus should be cut. Everyone who has a problem with Phoenix act like experts and go SUCH AND SUCH shouldn't have been cut. They are unable to judge the movie because they are bias and unable to actually watch the movie.

Final movie should be made into 2 movies or at least 3 hours long. You guys are right there are just too many things going on in the last book. Otherwise there would be a lot of unhappy people out there if they cut out parts of the book just to made the movie into a 2 hours movie.

I saw the first 5 movies then read the last two books.

There is SO MUCH to the last two books... I've wondered how in the hell they were going to trim so much to make a couple hour movie and still have it make sense.
but to us that have read them all, the question has always been there. The previous movies are extremely streamlined compared to the books.

Everybody who bought the box set hoping to replace the two extras BDs with the final two films in the series just got screwed.
