My copy of Boogiepop and Others Blu-ray actually just arrived yesterday from Rightstuf, so I have both Boogiepop Blu-rays in my collection now.

The least Funimation could have done was include the first novel and some postcards or something.
A lot of Funimation’s decisions regarding limited edition sets are based on the viewing numbers they receive through streaming. It’s a bummer, but at least Boogiepop and Others got a physical release.

Well maybe if they advertised the show when it was streaming it would have had better viewing numbers then too. It's a crime at how underrated this franchise goes by in the US.

Speaking of which, I finally watched the first 3 episodes and sadly, they did not fix the animation for the BD release. Eyes still disappear from faces and the fight between the Manticore and Echoes still looks terrible. Thankfully Funimation's 5.1 audio mix for the dub is booming.

It’s one of those shows that just doesn’t pull in a large audience. Marketing it better likely wouldn’t have yielded different results. Many would be turned off by it’s first episode alone. The best way for shows like Boogiepop or Kino’s Journey ‘03 or Texhnolyze to thrive is by word of mouth.

I finished the BD set of the series today. So great, but Funimation screwed up on the two joke of bonus features. It's supposed to be textless openings and closings, but it's only the closings video on both with the music to the opening song. UGH!! I should email them on this blunder.

I hope it's okay to resurrect this thread with a question. I got Boogiepop and Others directly from Amazon (not a third party seller), and I'm not sure if I have the FUNimation USA release or the Madman one.

My copy has the Australian MA 15+ sticker on it, but there's no mention of Madman on the discs or back cover.

The regions listed on my copy are also consistent with the FUNimation release. But I'm just thrown off by the Australian age rating sticker. Did FUNimation use this sticker too?

Well, Sony owns both companies, and Madman ports over FUNi discs all the time, so I’d bet they literally just took the FUNi release and added a sticker for the Australian rating to it, rather than make a new cover for it.

Thanks, prof. I want the USA version. But in this instance, it shouldn't matter. Is that what you're saying? I'm just weirded out because of the aforementioned sticker. Plus it's kinda annoying they put it on the slipcover and not the shrinkwrap.

Correct. They are doing this since April 2019 for a bunch of shows.
They are also planning this for the Wicked City CE by Manga UK.

But to rise awarenes:
It happened with MHA S3p1 LE that Madman, whilest still using Funimations packaging and UPC (thus same amazon listing) actually switched out the disc to make the AU release only playable on Region B / R4 players.

It is possible, that future Region A only LE from Funimation will be treated similar by Madman (-> disc replaced by Region B version but same UPC thus mixed up Amazon listings).
For any Standard edition you should be safe*: Madman only uses Funimations UPC, when they only slap their age rating on the packaging (thus same discs). Otherwise Madman produces their own discs with own UPC.

Whilest Manga UK acts similar with various products, Manga UK always changes the UPC/EAN code, so Amazon listings don't get mixed up.

*: I don't what will happen with Million Arthur, as by error the Funimation discs aren't Region B compatible and thus requires replacement.

@prophetic:
Was your copy sealed twice?

No, just one shrinkwrap around the slipcover.

But if I'm in the US, should I be getting the Australian sticker on my Amazon purchase? Is that FUNimation's mistake, or Amazon's?

Is the Others disc by Funimation any good or is it rife with their signature technical nonsense? I said I'd never buy Funi again but I'll make exceptions when their option isn't stinky.

The short answer is no. Clearly there was some mix up. If Funimation are porting their releases over, as TThomas mentioned above, the UPC would likely remain the same. An Amazon employee probably wouldn’t know the difference either (and that’s if they even notice the sticker in the first place.)

So in short: It's Madman's fault that they didn't change the UPC (like Manga UK does).

In the DVD era similar things happened with ADV UK until 2005 and some very early Funimation x MVM UK. But than ADV UK and MVM UK actually replaced the discs with PAL R2 only DVDs (making them unplayable on US players).

@prophetic:
My only Madman copy (Darling in the Franxx p2) had sealing above the Blu-ray itself (like any other Funi release) and a second sealing above the slipcover.

Boogiepop and Others Blu-ray is now listed as “No Longer Available” through Right Stuf. It’s down to 2 copies left on the Crunchyroll Store and only available via third-party vendors on Amazon.
