The reviewer over at DVD Beaver says he may do a comparison in the near future. Just watched this last night and it was as charming as ever. It looked very good to my eyes though I haven't watched the dvd in awhile. Nice detail and definitely a bit brighter than I remember.

This is annoying to read when it comes from the site's own review, since it's what readers will want to know on a site like Blu-ray.com...

Can't believe the disc has the lossy audio only. It's a bummer Film Movement did this...

Good to also have the UK disc for the PCM audio and original ITC logos, even though the compression is abysmal compared to the Film Movement BD.

I realize I'm really late to the table here, but I'm hoping you folks can help me out.

I've been a HUGE fan of "Local Hero" for years, but honestly, I knew very little of Bill Forsyth except that he was one of Northern Exposure's Creators fave Director... so... I just saw "That Sinking Feeling" and "Gregory's Girl" and loved both of them. So I'm looking to pick-up whatever's available, hopefully, whichever's on Blu.

I'm a little confused about the American and British versions of "Gregory's..." The Review here seems to indicate that the Video is virtually the same but that the audio on the new American is crappy Lossy... but the Brit versions has 4.5 stars for Audio.

In terms of Bonus Features, it looks like the British version is virtually the same as the American (although it doesn't say on the British if the Bonus Features are 1080)... I'm trying to figure-out if I can find the 20:43 "Bill Forsyth on Gregory's Girl Interview" somewhere, maybe on YT.

Cute little aside: My wife and I were in Scotland a few years back and one of the places we stayed at was a nice little B&B in Armadale. The Owner was showing us to our room after we checked-in and I noticed a signed Photo of Bill Forsyth and Peter Riegert, so I said, [I]"One of my fave films..."[/I ] The Owner's attention perked-up and he said something like, "Well, you may like this..." and he took me out the front door and pointed to a Beach on the other side of the Loch, That's White Sands of Morar, the beach," he said proudly.

I can't answer your question but you might be pleased to know that there is a new book just out on the making of LOCAL HERO, by Jonathan Melville.

Thanx so much! That looks great, but at $76.82, it is seriously out of my Price Range.

I just spent $40 on a pretty crappy book about Northern Exposure, and that was a waste.

Pages 15 to 41 is about the Creators before they worked on NX. Interesting, but I bought the Book for Northern Exposure.

Pages 43 to 99 is the NX "Story." 56 Pages is more a Pamphlet than a book.

Pages 103 to 156 is an Appendix - Episode GUIDE - 53 pages of Episode Synopsis that could be found in a zillion places on the Internet for Free.

I'm annoyed...

Yeah and you should also find it on Am*z*** for much cheaper (than $76.82) too.

Thanx again!

It was pretty expensive on Amazon yesterday - at least $40... maybe more like $50... but now it's "down" to $28.95<

Also if there is both hardcover and paperback versions, that will make a huge difference (and it can be easy to mistaken)

The database is user-submitted, so you can also submit an entry for the DVD. Just visit the page for any DVD and hit the "add new movie" link.

That's a UK DVD release by the way. I don't think this site even has a movie database entry for Gregory's Two Girls, so that would need to be created too.

So, if I'm reading this correctly, the "Bill Forsyth on Gregory's Girl Interview," from the last Blu is not included. But everything else is?
