I do like how Lionsgate releases "off-the-wall" type of movies on 4K like Hell Fest, though.

I agree and I have a feeling that Disney will somehow screw up the 20th Century Fox releases. But I think Fox did fantastic with Logan, Bohemian Rhapsody and even Assassins Creed. I would gladly show any of those three films to someone on the fence about upgrading to 4K.

Nah, Warners was the worst. Fobbing off tons of crap overcompressed discs with lossy audio and even 1080i ones like Full Metal Jacket and Terminator 3. Sony were a bit too trigger-happy with their old MPEG-2 masters, but at least they gave us lossless audio right off the bat.

As for UHD... gonna have to join in the choir and say Sony in terms of sheer technical quality. But Lionsgate and Studio Canal are catching up fast, especially if the former stops doing bloody filmouts and the latter continues to keep an eye on their compression quality.

As for the other major players, Fox and Paramount have some great ones but they need to step up the quantity. Universal needs to stop distributing their stupid "every language under the sun" discs in predominantly English-speaking countries so I don't have import the ones with subtitled sections from the US. And Disney can shove their Atmouse mixes and BD-66-for-3-hour-movies up Goofy's bunghole.

Warner Brothers, Paramount & Universal for sound.

Sony, Lionsgate & Paramount for picture.

A few Disney ones but yea their sound mixes suck.

I'd vote Lionsgate purely from the perspective of the sheer left field unexpected releases of stuff I'd never have expected would get a 4k release, and often with Atmos upgrades...

Favourites are sony(best transfers/encoding on the market, original audio included, multiple cuts), fox(best remasters on the market but they dont release enough), studiocanal(best restorations on the market. They also dont screw us in oz much always including bonus discs unlike others). Universal(biggest step up I have seen from the worst BD studio ever to perhaps the best UHD studio when they get it right)
Worst are Disney(DNR plus poor encoding makes some of their releases downgrades. No DV/HDR10+ support. No commentaries) Fox(limited DV support, limited releases compared to other studios. 4K only releases in Australia being cheap) Warner Bros(their new releases are great, but their dumb audio choices with default dolby digital/dts tracks instead of atmos and lack of original mixes on Blade Runner and Batman ruin their releases

For me, Sony and Warner bros for PQ/AQ departments, Lionsgate and Universal for quantity even though both deliver very good PQ/AQ too (except for those that got DNR'd).
Disney is the worst one out of the bunch due to only decent PQ and their Dolby Atmos tracks don't sound much better than a regular Dolby Digital 5.1 track.

How did Assassin’s Creed sound? Was there a lot of panning? I didn’t mind the movie because I never played the game’s so I had an unbiased opinion.

I have such mixed feelings about Lionsgate. It's great that they're releasing so many movies, but Lock Up and Red Heat over Reservoir Dogs, which has an ancient, soft blu ray that is mediocre at best by even 2007 standards? Seriously???

When it comes to Lionsgate, I just feel like I can be confident that any one of their newer films will be released on the 4K format. I can't say that about a lot of other distributors.

One of my favorite recent movies. Such a shame it hasn't gotten a 4K release.
