According to a Facebook update, it looks like this, Bayan ko, and La traque are all gonna be released in November. That’s gonna be an expensive month.

i don't know much about the label, i only saw their logo once before--is there anything to suggest they will or won't have english subs for this?

i don't think i'd even be thinking about this but the thread for parasite has put this into my mind so wondering what other people think.

For the record, perhaps I shouldn’t be so confident since this will be the first English-language film they’ve released on the format. I’m just going by what they’ve done so far, which is The Blood Rose and Bacchanales sexuelles, both of which have English subs and dubs - but are both also French-language films.

We’ll see how things turn out, but I would be shocked if they forced French subs on this, especially considering how much attention it’s getting.

Did they say anything about a pre order date? I wish they would do another pressing of Blood Rose. Copies are scarce and expensive.

I don't even care about forced subtitles at this point, I'm just glad we're getting a Zulawski film on frickin UHD.

Forced subs are awful! I have a copy of Serpico like this and I literally taped a piece of cardboard in front of my projector lens while I watched the thing to block off the portion of the screen where the subs were located) because I would rather have an imbalanced image with part of the screen chopped off than watch it with subtitles I do not need.

which US distributor owns possession?
likely they have similar contract in place to not have english subs on French release?

Considering that LCQF is doing a brand new restoration on their own, I doubt they have a similar contract in place, but who knows? We’ll just have to wait for the final specs to find out.

No, forced softsubs. Some players can disable them or move them off-screen though. There's always muxing them out which is probly what I'll be doing.

I asked them if they could use HDR on this UHD. Well...

Err... it also wasn’t “made” to be digitally transferred and presented on a digital optical disc.

Did you try explaining that HDR, if done correctly, simply presents a higher/wider range of color and contrast — information already contained within the camera negative?

Movies aren't shot for SDR either. But we can't all screen the film reels in our home. Their reasoning doesn't make a lot of sense.

That’s a disappointing change in reasoning. When they did their first UHD, they said it wouldn’t have HDR because the software was too expensive, but now it sounds like they’re not even pursuing it because they’re misunderstanding what it is. That’s too bad.
