I perfer a steady cam for one reason, too much shaky and I get motion sick. It sucks. I am looking forward to Cloverfield, but if it is all handy cam style, I would get sick and not be able to sit through the entire film.

I agree completely. I think this movie is going to be a real let down after all the hype its gotten.

The reason it seems like two monsters in or outside the tent with the girl is because of the sound effects. The sound was of something crunching/biting on her as she was screaming. That is always confusing.

Just watched the trailer. The film looks good. Hope it does not suck. I won't see it in theaters but will see the screener/cams of it when they are available.

Quote:
The film was edited to look like it was filmed with one hand-held camera, including jump cuts similar to ones found in home movies. Director Matt Reeves described the presentation, "We wanted this to be as if someone found a Handicam, took out the tape and put it in the player to watch it. What you're watching is a home movie that then turns into something else." Reeves explained that the pedestrians documenting the severed head of the Statue of Liberty with the camera phones was reflective of the contemporary period. "Cloverfield very much speaks to the fear and anxieties of our time, how we live our lives. Constantly documenting things and putting them up on YouTube, sending people videos through e-mail - we felt it was very applicable to the way people feel now," the director said.

Looks like it's going to be a rough ride for those that don't like that sort of thing! I am with the majority. I can only take some much of the shakiness. Perhaps it won't be so bad since this is REAL film and none of that crap you go to the store and buy off the shelf.

My gf and I both think it looks interesting...but after we watched the trailer, the first thing she said was that she hated the camerawork. Its not often that she points something like that out, but I have to agree. If the whole movie is that shaky I won't bother watching it.

I also feel this movie is gonna be a big let down and the shaky camera, lets just hope thats just for effect for the trailer and the actual movie is nothing like that. At first the movie seemed like a monster movie but then after watchin the trailer again it seems like an alien attack movie. The things in war of the worlds sounded like monsters too so it could be similar to that.

It is two guys in Haz-Mat suits. Being in my line of work, I get to see production pictures and I just saw an image of the guys in the suits about 2 weeks ago. If I can dig up a picture online I will post it.

This movie is supposed to have a "documentary" style approach. It follows the party goers through the attack. The camera is documenting the events as they unfold. The monster is hidden because its not in view from where they are standing when it happens.

There is one big monster followed by 100's or 1000's of little baby ones which attack the city later. Don't expect the movie to concentrate much on the monster, the movie will concentrate on the fear of those surrounding the events taking place. Its just a new refreshing way of making a monster movie. Do we really want to see yet another military attack on a monster? We have already seen the "bait" trick, the "lure" trick, the "send a hundred missiles into its mouth" trick. Its about time somebody did something a bit more unique.

Does this movie have international distribution rights? All the advertising for this movie seems focused in the USA. The USA PSN store has the trailer but the UK one doesn't. In fact nobody has even heard of it that I speak to.

Disagree completely. I thought the camera work in COM was horrible and hugely detracted from the movie.

The hand-held camera was woefully overused, annoying and distracting.

Of course, I thought most of that movie was a mess anyway. And pretty much the entire theater audience I saw the film with had the same opinion, based on comments I heard while exiting the theater.

Well let us know how it is. I, for one, will not be paying $8-$9 to see a movie shot like this. It completely takes the fun out of my theatre experience. Thanks Blair Witch Project!

I agree. I saw the first trailer before Transformers last year and have been anticipating this.

I was anticipating this one until I saw the trailer and realized the entire film would be shown that way. I really can't see enjoying a film shot like that. With it being a Para/Uni release, it's just one more strike against it for me.
