And if you manage to survive the next few months, this will all happen again come next winter.

And beyond that, even if you never get sick, you're more than likely to lose your job as we end up with a global recession lasting decades.
today's front page story in the Washington Post was stating the 'containment' is proving not possible.

No insurance

Festival organizers reveal that their insurance policy doesn't include losses due to infections or pandemics. Don't a lot of these festivals operate year to year, using this year's profits to finance next year's activities? Seem to recall several music fests that had to cancel a year never coming back.

I think a lot of festivals do rely on funds from the last year to fund next year. I wouldn't worry about South by Southwest though because it started in began in 1987 and has continued to grow in both scope and size every year. In 2017, the conference lasted for 10 days with the interactive track lasting for five days, music for seven days, and film for nine days. I think the festivals your talking about started up a few years previously so they didn't have a huge pool of money to keep them going. SXSW has 33 years worth of money they probably have a pretty big rainy day fund.

Furthermore, I am still of the opinion that raw numbers matter more. Suppose a Coronavirus patient is 30 times more likely to die than a flu patient, but you are 1,000 times more likely to get the flu than Coronavirus. Which one should you be more afraid of?
The one that our health system isn't already designed to combat? Also, the supposition your asking us to make doesn't make any sense because the Coronavirus is actually more contagious than the flu.

It seems to me that a lot of the people attempting to downplay the danger of COVID-19 are using it in a political way to try and criticize the media rather than accepting the obvious reality that it's a clear danger, it's here, and many more people will get it.

Earlier in the month it was announced that Amazon would be partnering with SXSW to make their movie selections available free to Amazon subscribers.

https://www.sxsw.com/film/2020/amazo...al-collection/

However, it's sounding like they made the announcement before inquiring with the filmmakers, many of which are declining Amazon's offer. And rightfully so, as most distributors aren't going to touch a movie that has already been given away for free.

Some of the declined films include:
Clerk
Insert Coin
I Used To Go Here
You Cannot Kill David Arquette

+ at least 4 others that wish to remain anonymous

It sounded like the online festival was originally planned for late April, but so far no dates or announced films have been revealed.

Should be interesting to see what comes of this.
