That looks amazing! And it leaves me wondering what the console will look like given the pad usually matches it.

Pictures in OP are the original design for the new PS5 controller and personally find them really snazzy. The rest look bad because they're quickly photoshopping the colours on over the original pictures with little regard for the lightning and so on to make it look real like the original pics. In time we'll get them but people like quick clickbait for YouTube or their sites to use.

I guess the good thing is that PSVR2 should come with its own dedicated controllers now that the lightbar on this controller looks pretty much useless as for tracking. Hopefully we get a proper VR controller like the patents Sony filled.

Failing that, like you say, we may be getting new move style controllers with a directional thumb stick. I’m going for the first possibility. |

Tbh, i think PSVR 2.0 will be releasing around a minimum of 12 months after PS5 does. Holiday 2021 at the earliest and hopefully full BC but also it could release after 2 years. |

Space between the face buttons actually looks the same sort of equivalent as DS4 bearing in mind i guess the DualSense is also a bigger form factor which is why you think that. Can't speak for the materials just yet but personally never really had an issue with the triggers myself even after many hours of use but comparing it to a new DS4 i can tell they're not as "tight" but that's to be expected over time using anything. I think personally there's a few ways to address the issues. 1) Use thumb grips. Used them since the infamous launch Dualshock 4 analogue stick rubber issues. You have a range that can suit your gaming habits from texture to stick height. 2) Probably just trying it out and getting a feel for the distance. Given you used Xbox controllers possibly, it might not be an issue. 3) Like #1, there's a few 3rd party options to add your own grips to the trigger stops if you really want to. I believe the handle grips have a new texture material for there which isn't properly being shown off. Maybe the DualSense does have one final secret Sony wants to save and haven't mentioned it for that reason and shown off the back of the controller which would expose that element. |

My biggest concern was what Sony would do to address the analog sticks.
While MS’s is 100% solid plastic, Sony opted to still include rubber material. If you’ve ever held stock DS4 & stock Xbox One Controllers back to back, that is the first thing you notice. The plastic texture on the edges of Xbox’s sticks have grooves. You never lose grip. Literally. Button placement may not be a con if the controller is chubby like it appears to be. Also, the buttons are not flush. So the slightly angled position might be a good thing if the grip is in fact thicker. Materials look identical on the DS5 with regard to the triggers. I have no problem with the DS4 triggers when they are brand new. They do wear out & become less press sensitive. That said, we don’t know what’s inside the DS5’s so the benefits of durability may be hidden. Edit Credit where credit is due. Sony could have been lazy but these changes to the controller do make it look like a new one. Unlike PS1, PS2, PS3. Last edited by Derb; 04-08-2020 at 12:28 AM. |

the blog post really reads like a bored marketing person under quarantine lol.
It just looks like an evolved dualshock really. Adding feedback in the triggers is great, I loved it on the xb1 with forza for car feedback. I'm still not a fan of the huge touchpad that's barely ever used and now they surrounded it with the dumb light bar. |

I think Dualshock 1, Dualshock 2 & Dualshock 3 were the most identical in terms of their designs and DS4 was the first real change to i suppose you could say making it a bit different to those prior 3 generations.
It had the lightbar, the PS button, a Share button, touchpad and extended the back L2 & R2 into triggers. It was really the first major design departure for Sony but they nailed making it look like an evolution and to me at least, credit where it's due, Sony now seem to be doing it twice in a row where they further change the design elements to be more visually distinct but still look recognisable as the PlayStation coontroller. That's pretty solid work imo. I did like the all black mock up with the classic PS1 style PlayStation logo. Really do wish they added a similar flourish to the button or make it stand out a little bit more. Even the DS4 has a shiny finish to the button with a white PS logo. This just blends in too invisible imo. |
