Great news!! I will be monitoring the website to be one of the first to order.

The poster would be a great surprise.

The pre-order (reservation) did not happen today, and language concerning 7/8 was removed from their website.

I didn’t realize this was hitting Blu. An EXCELLENT film, and a proto-noir, waaaaaaaaay ahead of its time. Did I say proto-noir? Nah, it’s actually a full-fledged noir in my opinion. Can’t wait to get this. For those precode and noir fans out there who haven’t seen this, prepare to be blown away.

I think proto-noir just means that it's thematically and visually noir, but before the official noir period (generally considered 1941-1959). Doesn't mean it's any less noir-y. Similar with City Streets and Le Quai des Brumes (Port of Shadows). I think even The Story of Temple Drake is fairly noir

I've never heard this one before, but I'm definitely in for Zita Johann.

Just learning about this one today. Can't wait! I tried emailing them for this info, but I'm curious if there's any current indication of a pre-order on the horizon...

Without any official word, we really don't know. I do check their website periodically, but have just supposed it will go on sale on the 29th.

Thanks. I preordered. Strange that their own site still doesn’t have a preorder option yet, considering the expected release is less then 2 weeks from now.

$19.99 at Bull Moose. Add $10 more (even if it’s a gift card) and get Free Shipping. No tax unless you’re in Maine and one or two other New England states, I think?

I ordered it too! I love Bull Moose.

They also have the three new Paramount releases for $9.97 each: THE TWO JAKES, THE SONS OF KATIE ELDER and BAREFOOT IN THE PARK, in case anyone needs a title to add to NORA MORAN for free shipping.

Mostly agreed, although the generally agreed-upon noir period starts in 1940, with the release of STRANGER ON THE THIRD FLOOR, generally considered to be the “first” noir. THE MALTESE FALCON definitely wasn’t the first of the era.

Yes and no. I feel like it's pretty split down the middle between people who think it started in 1940 and those who think it started in 1941. There is certainly some debate about what the "first" was. Eddie Muller, for example, believes the full-blown movement with The Maltese Falcon. I Wake Up Screaming was shot before Maltese was released, so it is basically the same time and not inspired by the latter.

Some say The Letter is a 1940 noir too, and I don't disagree.

Even Raoul Walsh's They Drive By Night pre-dates all of the ones we've mentioned. Another pre-Maltese noir (and a great one) is Flight from Destiny (1941).

(Stranger on the Third Floor is a great film, btw )

Got excited when I saw this release. The use of the official blu ray logo on the packaging left me feeling that this is going to be a pressed disc. But just went to pre order this, and the product page says it is a “replicated” disc, looking suspiciously like a bd-r monstrosity with misleading marketing. Am I wrong? I do hope so. Won’t be buying if it isn’t pressed.

FilmDetective's previous special edition Blu-rays have been pressed, so despite that odd disclaimer that I noticed as well, I don't think it will be a BD-R.

If this is not a pressed disc than they should not be using the official Blu-ray logo, as it goes against Blu-ray spec.

The specification section lists the disc format as: Disc Format: BD-25. I am curious, if this in fact BD-R product, why they would list the disc format as being BD-R

I'm going along with you. I think this is pressed.
