Grease is the exception to the rule. I mean, it's Grease, one of Paramount's biggest catalogue titles. It was also the 40th anniversary, and it received a singalong re-release in cinemas.

And Saving Private Ryan. Yes, Paramount are like most studios in that they love to tie in UHDs with a new feature and not even a theatrical one, e.g. releasing (and doing a fantastic job of) all five Jack Ryan movies in UHD just to cash in on the streaming show, but they like the occasional anniversary as well. Grease (40th) and SPR (20th) come to mind, as does Gump even though they jumped the gun by a year with the UHD.

A little tidbit. This movie had such a large affect on people that hiphop/black culture created the slang "Swayze." Meaning that the person is leaving. Gone. Ghost.

"i'm about to be Swayze."

Unless paramount has a secret reboot/sequel planned I wouldn't give up your hopes for a 4K disc anytime soon. Paramount will only release a 4k disc if they can tie it to a current theatrical release it seems like...

What's wrong with this extra feature that is now being removed from all future releases of Ghost, since the collector's edition DVD?

http://www.dvdmg.com/ghost.shtml

In addition to the film’s theatrical trailer, we also find a solid documentary about the movie. Entitled Ghost: Remembering the Magic, this 22-minute and 20-second program uses the usual motif: it combines film clips, shots from the set, and interviews with participants. The latter include Zucker, Rubin, and actors Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, and Whoopi Goldberg. All but the last two come from discussions circa 2000. I couldn’t identify the age of Goldberg’s snippets, but Moore’s clearly were shot on the set of her 1991 clunker Nothing But Trouble.

In any case, it’s the men who dominate the program, as we only hear a little of that archival material from Goldberg and Moore. Like many documentaries, “Remembering the Magic” has its share of happy talk. Nonetheless, it actually offered a nicely rich and frank discussion of the creation of the film. We hear more about various problems and disagreements, and we get a good picture of the various issues. Many of these are also covered in the audio commentary, but I still thought this was a solid discussion of Ghost.

"Remembering the Magic" was only available in the first DVD released.

Also missing from the last Blu-ray are these:

"Inside the Paranormal" Featurette (8:53)
"Cinema's Great Romances" Featurette (19:45)
Photo Gallery (63 images)

Great movie. For some reason it's kind of had the stigma of being a 'chick flick,' perhaps because Swayze was mostly still recognized at the time from Dirty Dancing. But I thought it was more than that and as a kid it was a movie that could make me laugh and cry. Saw it in the theater and really enjoyed it at the time. McDonald's also sold this on vhs back in the day and a bunch of people bought it. It was arguably one of Whoopi's funniest roles and she even earned a supporting actress oscar from the role. This movie was likely way bigger than anyone had anticipated and sadly it's probably forgotten by most and may not be a movie that younger generations have seen or would enjoy now.

Grease came out around the same time as “Grease Live”, while the other two are part of paramount Crown Jewels (I think they officially called them “sapphire series” that always get released a million times like “The Godfather” and they can always tie them in with whatever movie Tom Hanks has coming out that year.

although, well until the pandemic, I believe Ghost was getting a theatrical re-release this summer/fall

UHDs for SPR and Gump actually came out before the theatrical re-releases though (Gump was just a few weeks before the pandemic)

I want to support this line but I'm finding it hard to double dip on some of these on Blu-ray again. Blu-ray premieres like Pretty In Pink are exciting but stuff like Ghost and Fatal Attraction not so much. I love that Paramount seems to be newly invigorated about catalog titles - hopefully this will be long-term but they gotta bring out the titles that have languished on DVD.

Yeah well I just realized this morning that the line is limited to films with 4K masters. Kind of dashes my hopes for a lot of titles I'd love to see. I mean, is Paramount going to do a 4K master of Mouse Hunt and Rat Race? lol I doubt it.

And apparently there's no 4K master for Sorry, Wrong Number or I Married A Monster From Outer Space if the Imprint releases are any indication. So we can probably cross those off the list of candidates.

I hope it's long-term too and that this line is in it for the long haul, but I can't escape the feeling that it will go the way of Vestron. If it even makes it that far.

I didn't have Fatal Attraction, so I picked that up. But I agree -- I have Ghost and it'd have to be a night/day difference for me to double dip. If they released it on 4K UHD, however, I'd likely upgrade -- that's what I did for Days of Thunder.

I don't own "The Ghost" (as Hans or Franz called it) so I might have to pick this up.
