Just tossed the disc into the OPPO-103
Menu pops up, 3 options- play feature, scene selection, set up No special features The audio defaults to English DTS-HD MA 5.1 48k (box does not specify HD audio) 6 chapters, Total run time 1h 43m 58s Aspect Ratio is somewhere around 2.35ish, I’m not great with that. Plays around 24-28Mbps according to the counter on the screen Complaints- Audio is a bit low. I do t use a surround or sound bar, just TV speakers. 13-15 is a good volume average for me particularly for films like these. Playing this at 20 was a necessity. Easily fixed, wouldn’t avoid it due to this. Little bit of banding in a dark hallway scene at the beginning but then I didn’t notice anymore. It doesn’t bother the film or obstruct. No extras- I do like a trailer When Capone speaks in Italian, the subtitles are in a nice yellow. If using subtitles, they overlap the burned in yellow subs. Beyond those Minor issues, it’s a good presentation. The score is a nice piece by El-P but it isn’t fitting to the film. On its own it is good. Fortunately, it isn’t a vast score, very minimal. Period appropriate music would be better suited. It’s a hard film to watch. Hardly anything about it is pleasant. I feel it would have been better served as a final chapter in a Capone mini series. Capone is an interesting take on the man. We’ve always seen him as a force of nature. Here we see him in the final stages of decay. Many will probably find it off putting. I have no experience with neurosyphilis. I do however have experience in dealing with a few relatives with dementia and Alzheimer’s. Hardy did well with conveying emotion through his eyes in some scenes. Is it for the masses? No. Is it good, yes. Does it work, mostly. I stand by my prior comment that this feels like it should be the last part of a mini series. A little different opening and a little tweaking of the ending and I feel it would be a good stand alone film. My father died of dementia. Before he went into a bed bound state with extremely limited vocabulary and motor function, he suffered delusions and talked about things that were not there, things that were mixed up. In February 2010, he stopped being able to walk overnight. On Tuesday, he was fine, talking weird things, but still functioning. Wednesday, my mother had to help him out of bed because he couldn’t walk. She got him up and thought maybe his back was being a problem. Thursday, he awoke and could not walk. The doctors thought it was spinal stenosis. Still had mental capacities but delusions. No sign of strike on MRI or CT. Did a spinal surgery and he wasn’t the same. Immediately went down. He could look so scared at times then almost immediately give you a cold and ferocious look. Much of Hardy’s portrayals were very good. Some of Capone’s more embarrassing moments were portrayed well and people’s reactions were done well. Mannerisms and speech change were good. My father wasn’t a gangster but he was a prominent member of our city. To see a powerful entity fall in such a way is a hard view. No doubt Capone did some horrible actions through his life but dementia is a truly brutal way to go. |

This was one of the worst movies I've seen in quite some time. Very seldom do I give up but this just wasn't worth the time. I devoted an hour or more and couldn't stand it. Many reviews have stated, and I'll agree, this chapter in his life would have been better served as a finale to a more complete biopic or mini-series. Hardy and Cardellini were excellent. But an hour of him peeing and crapping himself, then having hallucinations and screaming in Italian were enough. We went through my mother having dementia with hallucinations so I know what hell it can be. If you are a Capone buff that needs to see everything you'll probably like it. If you have a deep, deep taste in movies that most casual filmgoers don't enjoy, it's for you. If you are looking to be entertained that's questionable. 1/2* / 5

I bought this blu ray at Dollar Tree for $1.25. Yes it is a blind buy. Yes I heard it was a bad movie. But cmon, this was the same price of a candy bar. So I will watch it and probably never watch it again but I was actually excited to see a main stream movie like this stuck in a bin full of things I never heard of before.
