Best way to get it confirmed is if we all continue to gobble up any/all golden- and silver-age 3D titles handled by 3D Film Archive, including the newly released Taza and the forthcoming Wings of the Hawk.

I know you're on board with this, 13thman; this gentle reminder is for our other 3D-equipped friends here.

I'd be picking some up if they didn't region lock their discs.

^This.

I have quite a few Golden Age but would have loved The Mask and Parasites.

Guys, it's not 3DFA or Kino (or Shout, or Vinegar Syndrome, et al.) who are region-locking their discs. It's the lawyers working with the studios and the rights-holders.

Distributors like Kino I'm sure press the region-free case to these owners but in the end they have to abide by these laws or they don't get the movies. Period.

There's no getting around it. Oh wait. There is.... by getting a region-free 3D blu ray player. The happiest home-entertainment decision I ever made was to go region-free. At least a third of my discs are non-Region 1.

Have I spent more money? Sure. But it's a (largely) binary choice: Buy region-free hardware (or a decoding guide), or forego a large number of 3D titles.... or hope you can find a bootleg region-friendly dupe of the title you want.

But complaining about it here is an utterly ineffective and pointless waste of bits, bytes and keyboard strokes.

Understand but it’s stupid. Especially for titles that won’ ever get a release in other countries. Utterly stupid. It’s only spiting film fans/collectors.
How can all 4K discs be region free? What changed?

I'm not complaining, I'm just stating a fact. I'm not going to buy any discs locked to region A. I'm not foregoing a large number of 3D titles, I'm foregoing a very small number of 3D titles that I'm really not too bothered about.

All the titles that we own are region free on 3-D Blu-ray.

Dragonfly Squadron
The Mask
The Bubble
3-D Rarities
The Stewardesses
September Storm
3-D Nudie-Cuties
3-D Rarities II

When we are a work for hire, we have no say whatsoever in the licenses that are available from the copyright holders. Region free 3-D Blu-ray players are your friend!

I've owned 2 region free blu ray players in the past, they both broke, I can't be bothered to buy another, not when I already own 3 other blu ray players (4 if you count the PS4).

There are so few titles I'm missing out on, I can live with it.

You don't happen to know who owns the rights to Silent Madness 3D do you Robert?

DVD/BD backup software (eg - anydvd) by-passes region lock. Create a media library and get a media player (eg - Zidoo Z9S). Problem solved.

We own the rights to Dragonfly Squadron and the region free 3-D Blu-ray was released by Olive.

All I can suggest is that you write Boris Johnson and request he get his trade negotiator on it. I'm afraid there's not much we can do here at the Blu ray Forum....

But as Bob notes you can of course buy the 3DFA-owned titles.... and plus, look on the bright side: You're spared A*P*E.

I have bought every single region free 3DFA title including both volumes of 3D Rarities.

This is probably old news to many, but it dawned on me today that VS recently released ‘Savage Dawn’ on Blu-Ray, and that happens to be directed by Simon Nuchtern, the same guy who directed Silent Madness a year earlier.

The other rumour was Rottweiler. I think Silent madness is likely.

Anyone seen Rottweiler in 3D?

Yeap. I saw this in 35mm (over/under). Nothing to write home about. The usual couple of "out of screen" stick-a-stick in your eyes shots and not much more. All very dark is what I remember the most. And a bit boring IMO. There's been a fairly good quality field-sequential bootleg around since the 90's, as there is one of Silent Madness as well. For some reason, I can't recall much of silent madness at all, so definitely didn't leave a large impression. But from what little I can remember, the 3D wasn't bad, just the movie itself lol. Time to give it a rewatch. Both these titles were easy to license and had pristine elements available for transfers some 20 years ago, so yeah, I think they are good candidates for a 3D bluray release.

Cheers for that. Maybe Silent a Madness is the best choice in that case?

From faded memory I would say that both are not that great for sure, with Rotweiller PRETENDING to be a "serious" movie (sort of say Parasite), with a lot of "fillers" and little action, while Silent Madness is more camp/amateurish/so-bad-it-could-be-good-if-you-are-drunk, and more upbeat ...

3D-wise, I couldn't tell. I know Rottweiler had like 3 off-screen good effects and overall good staging, but nothing else (conservative and just too dark!). I just watched a bit of Silent Madness and they do shoot at your face every now and then, break the stereo window, drag axes around ...

I think I prefer Silent.

Yeah, to be honest, it’s just the novelty of another label producing a 3D title. I hope it does well so they will consider more.

Thanks for the info. It’s much appreciated.
