There's Always Tomorrow is a very bleak film. I don't know if it was a success but it is a dark indictment of the 50s ideal of having a family as the ultimate goal in life and the satisfaction it is supposed to bring. The final image is creepy and it's amazing nobody at the time understood it. Unless of course they did.

Thanks for all the hard work!
I agree, it's tough, different programs can take caps that look a bit different. I have the Elephant BDs of both titles, and ordered the KL BDs of both titles during their latest sale. Once they arrive, I'll try to do direct comparison caps of a few shots, taken with the exact same program, so they'll be an exact and direct comparison. |

Either way, both films suffer from using old, mediocre, masters. I have the MoC DVD of "There's Always Tomorrow" and I picked up the Kino Blu during their current sale as I didn't realize MoC's was still one of their PAL-encoded DVDs.

MoC releases are from the UK, wouldn't all the DVDs be PAL? I only have their BDs, none of their DVDs. (A couple of my BDs do have DVDs included, but I've never touched them.)

At some point, they did do NTSC releases since all European TVs and DVD players could handle both formats. I'm assuming they did this to avoid PAL speed-up. Not sure which ones are NTSC vs. PAL, but I know their Nightmare Alley is NTSC in its original runtime.

Just so everyone's aware, I did caps of these, as promised ages ago, but I posted them in the Sirk thread:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...=331495&page=5 Quick summary: All I Desire -major technical error on KL disc, blacks severely crushed. Same master as French BD, buy that instead. There's Always Tomorrow - same dated HD master as French disc, again, but file size is twice as big on the KL disc, so compression is much better. |
